3:00 - FMV sequence in a spaceship - looks Terran - zooming in on a metal door - door opening - reveals a guy with a cigar in chains - prisoner - door shuts behind him - there's so much bass the room is shaking - guy steps into some kind of metallic devicce - legs are strapped in - guy rising toward ceiling - Korean text on screen got people very excited - another part of the machine is dropping metal arms on him - machine whirring - applying armor to his torso - extremly detailed visuals here - now guy is strapping on gloves - armor is molding together - seems like a Terran marine - rockets turn on - zerg now onscreen - Marine delivers a line - StarCraft 2 officially announced.

OHH HELL YES! :) :D :7  :toast:

If you can't tell, I'm more than a bit excited.

1. This is a great day, indeed. Official site, and release gameplay videos below:
The release was announced in South Korea, where the original game has continued to have a faithful, rabid, and very active following.

This is going to rock SO DAMN HARD.

2. Looks good, but I was kind of hoping for a new race or two
They might drop that on us before release...I'd expect it. If Warcraft is going to have 4 then Starcraft should at least have 4.

4. Nah
You only need 3 points to balance. =D

Seriously, I think the toss and Zerg adequately cover all the stereotypes of aliens. It feels less gimmicky for them not to add a new race. Remember the old starcraft instruction book? Not booklet, BOOK. Big and filled with back story. This is a pretty good little universe they've created, just adding new stuff into it for the sake of variety feels... wrong.

You've got the Terrans, who have to be there... the Protoss, created by the Xel'naga attempting to create a race with purity of form, and the Zerg, created with purity of essence. Every race already has factions... Protoss dark/high, Zerg Kerrigan/original overmind and cerebrates, Terran confederacy/Earth/Kel Morian combine. Plus whatever the hell Duran was doing.

It seems they're gonna make mostly new armies, with only a few classic units returning. The protoss still have only zealots and... photon cannons, and several new, very pretty, and interesting new units. Terrans have marines and siege tanks... and... that's about it. Zerg... so far we've ONLY seen zerglings. I would be surprised if the hydralisk doesn't make a comeback. All the rest though...

5. I would have been perfectly happy had they made the gameplay and units IDENTICAL to the original and
merely updated the look and operating system compatibility to ensure continued life of the game.

I personally feel that Starcraft is one of the few computer games is deserving of becoming an immortal classic like chess. It already has its own literature of replays and classic games, and still has a very active competition and tournament scene, if it that is mostly in Korea.

It's sad to think a classic game could be invented, and pass away from the world just because people are confined to thinking of computer games becoming "obsolete" because of newer graphics or operating systems.

6. I have said the exact same thing on many occasions.
Starcraft needs exactly one thing - a matchmaking system like wc3 has. Yes, this has its flaws, but the alternative is this "zero clutter" money map nonsense that completely destroys half the game (economics.) If real maps were to be played, the game would be great again.

I also have no doubt that we will be given an immensely powerful world editor, and it won't be long at all before the community sets about re-creating the original starcraft through a series of custom maps.

3. I think I was one of three people on Earth that didn't like the first one.
It wasn't bad by any means, but I have yet to find a RTS that actually involves much in the way of true strategy, and after playing wargames for so long they just don't grab me.

Having said that,I can only imagine how geeked people will be about this game.I love seeing people excited over things they really get into, even if I'm not.

Just wait until they announce a new Godzilla movie...I'll make you look like an old granny compared to my geekness and excitement. :D

8. I can understand why you feel that way about RTS', however, I must disagree.
I personally found Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War, Winter Assault, and Dark Crusade, along with the absolutely phenomenal Company of Heroes to require a greater amount of strategy then first meets the eye (of course, this could just be my fanboyism for anything made by THQ talking). I definitely recommend them.

9. You are right about Warhammer...I did like that one.Seemed deeper than most.
I forgot all about it.I never played the expansions though.I loved Red Alert and some of the early ones, but the Tank Rush, the Zerg Rush...it all became the same to me.

I'll see if I can locate Company of Heroes and give it a shot if my aging PC can handle it.I looked it up and it looks excellent, but I have a feeling the specs will be too high judging from the screenshots.Looks fun though.I'm fascinated by anything WW2 related for some reason.

7. Fellow stoked Starcraft player, enjoy the full video of the SC2 announcement and demo:

The excitement, both from the Blizzard rep and the crowd, is contagious. I can hardly imagine a big event like this done any better. Class act, Blizzard, and kudos for announcing in Seoul, the Starcraft/Battlenet capital of the world.
