F-15 inspection delays alter combat exercise plans

Pacific edition, Saturday, January 19, 2008

The second phase of air combat exercise Commando Sling has been canceled due to delays in aircraft inspections, the U.S. Air Force announced Thursday.

The exercise, a joint effort among the Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps and Singapore air force, was slated to continue next month, but 35 percent of participating aircraft have yet to clear inspection, according to the Air Force.

The Pacific Air Forces command cleared a portion of the F-15 Eagle A through D model aircraft to resume flying status Jan. 9. About 65 percent of the Air Force’s F-15 A through D fleet have cleared all inspections, the service reported.

The Air Force said its engineers are analyzing inspections of the remaining aircraft.

The third and fourth phases of Commando Sling will proceed as scheduled starting in May and June, the Air Force said.
