Post allowance up at some European bases
Post allowance up at some European bases
Stars and Stripes
European edition, Thursday, January 24, 2008

The post allowance rose Sunday at a handful of European locations, according to a message posted on the State Department’s Office of Allowances Web site.

The allowance increased for those stationed in Chievres, Belgium, which includes SHAPE, Luxembourg, and at Lajes Field in Portugal’s Azores.

Post allowance — which offsets the high cost of certain goods and services for some U.S. civilians in many overseas locations — didn’t change at other European locales with sizable numbers of U.S. troops.

For Chievres, the increase means that an employee who makes between $30,000 and $32,999 and has two dependents will get about $62 more in post allowance this pay period than last. A similar employee in the Azores will get about $39 more.

An exchange rate adjustment caused the increase in all three places, according to the message.
