TOKYO — A Marine accused in the alleged gang rape of a Japanese woman was found guilty Tuesday of “committing indecent acts” and sentenced to 15 months in prison.
Gunnery Sgt. Carl M. Anderson was one of four Marines charged in the alleged rape and robbery of the 20-year-old woman in Hiroshima in October.
A U.S. court-martial also found him guilty of “conspiracy to engage in indecent acts,” adultery, violating liberty and alcohol orders, fraternization and dereliction of duty, according to a statement by Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.
He was also ordered demoted to private and given a bad-conduct discharge.
Anderson is the third Marine sentenced in the case. Lance Cpl. Larry A. Dean, 20, was sentenced May 6 to two years in prison and Gunnery Sgt. Jarvis D. Raynor, 35, was sentenced May 20 to 600 days. Sgt. Lanaeus J. Braswell, 25 — the fourth defendant — is set to be tried later in June.
