NORFOLK, Va. — A Navy chaplain who faced an Article 32 hearing on sex-related charges in July is expected back in court for another hearing Wednesday.
Lt. Shane Dillman, who had been the ship’s chaplain for the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson, was scheduled for a general court-martial beginning Monday. Instead, a new Article 32 hearing was triggered by “new evidence,” said Mike Maus, spokesman for Navy Air Forces-Atlantic.
According to a Jan. 9 charge sheet, Dillman faces five charges with several specifications of fraternization, sexual assault, adultery and conduct unbecoming an officer.
Ten witnesses testified in the two-day hearing beginning July 24. Four of the witnesses were young female enlisted sailors who said they had been involved with Dillman in one way or another.
Lt. Cmdr. Jim Krohne, public affairs officer for the Carl Vinson, said Dillman is still assigned to the ship but on temporary duty at AirLant pending resolution of the case.
