Is there a way to find a lost relative with military records?

I have three lost cousins. Their father (my father's brother) died in early adulthood and their mother moved several times. This was in the 1960s. Two girls and one boy, so perhaps the boy could be traced but the last name is extremely common. We do know that he was in the USAF at one time. That's about the only clue we have.

Is there any way to search for him using USAF resources?

1. Have you run searches for their names and last known town/city?

It's amazing how much information you can locate just through a search on Google. Do you know their town/city where they might have gone to school?

Try running a search through USAF for the boy. Do you have his birth date? If you have the birth date, parents' names and town of birth, you can get a lot of information at the county courthouse or library archives. Some counties will look it up for you for a small fee. It's worth a call.

Searching on Google doesn't cost anything and is anonymous, so I'd give it a try with all the information you have and see what pops up. I'm no expert, but I've done a lot of family history searches and it is amazing what you can find. I even found an uncle who had a divorce after WWI that no one knew about. There are nice surprises, too.

5. the name is EXTREMELY common

I have tried searching it. The girls likely married, so there's no way of finding them.

2. If you go to ancestry.com you might be able to find them

I'm not sure if you still have to be a member to access some of the data. But they do have records of people listed in a Public Records Index that's as recent as the 1990s.

3. I think military records are private and you have to be a close relative

before you get info. Ancestry com does have US records and phone numbers from the 1990's so you might get a hit there. If you don't belong. Post the name I have an account and will run them down for you. But remember. The girl might have married and changed her name.

I don't even know when that would have been. There's just a vague knowledge that he was in the USAF.
