GREEN BAY, Wis. — The 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion leaves Thursday to prepare for their duty in Iraq.

The unit said members will assemble at their post in Ashwaubenon on Monday and leave for Fort Bragg, N.C., on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Richard Appel has said the unit is expected to train for six to eight weeks at Fort Bragg before heading to Iraq for a year.

Some members are going to Iraq for a second time after being deployed in early 2003 and spending 14 months there.

Civil affairs units generally work with governmental and nongovernmental agencies to help restore infrastructure, government and other institutions.

Among the members is Republican Rep. Mark Gundrum. He expects to serve as a judge advocate and deal largely with international law.
