Woman Alleges Gang-Rape by Contractors
Woman Alleges Gang-Rape by Contractors
Military.com | December 11, 2007

A Texas woman working in Iraq in 2005 claims she was gang-raped by Halliburton/KBR co-workers and then held in a shipping container under guard for about a day before being freed, ABC News is reporting.

The woman, Jamie Leigh Jones, now 22, claims in a lawsuit filed against her former employer that she was kept in the container within Baghdad's Green Zone under armed guard and was told if she left Iraq for medical treatment she would never work there or back in her hometown Houston again, ABC News reports.

The report also states Jones only was freed after a sympathetic guard loaned her a cell phone to call her father, who contacted his congressman, Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas. According to ABC, Poe says his office alerted the State Department, which sent two agents to the contractor's camp to rescue Jones.

ABC News is preparing to broadcast a story on the alleged rape on its news magazine "20/20."

Jones' lawsuit alleges she was drugged and then raped and injured by several attackers, and that while an examination by Army doctors showed she had been raped "both vaginally and anally," the rape kit disappeared after it was handed over to KBR security officers.
