I'm trying to decide if I should be indignant - opinion, please?
We had teacher appreciation day yesterday and were given a little envelope with things like Starbucks cards. But it also had a bookmark with a prayer on it and a flyer advertising a church. Nothing like this has ever happened before in the many years I've been there.

My gut reaction is a *huge* amount of indignation - I almost burst out when I opened the thing. Am I overreacting, do you think, or not?

I have *no* idea who donated the envelopes, although I'm sure I could find out. Might have been the church, for all I know - I didn't recognize the guy giving them to us.

1. I would feel indignant too.

It's a gift with strings attached... that does not show a great deal of appreciation. I would send a letter to the principal saying that a gift containing religious advertising is insensitive to those who do not hold those beliefs.

2. I don't like getting proselytized
and would resent the hell out of this. However, it probably did come from that church and was given in the spirit of an invitation, not a requirement.

I'd shitcan the religious crap and let it go with only a passing mention to people I trusted that religious stuff from a competitor's religion wasn't always going to be welcomed by everyone.

4. Eh,
I guess I'm kinda numb to that kind of thing since I'm around so much of it. Don't know if they had an ulterior motive but I'd just drink the coffee and shit-can the bookmark.

Of course, if they start giving out these freebies regularly in the attempt to lure you into their cult...that's another story.

6. At first I thought..."no big deal"...
then I tried to imagine how I would feel if I got
that at WORK.

It would have shocked me.

7. Oh, yes. Be indignant.
I started to get religious messages via our hospitals e-mail system. I noted that they pretty much included everyone EXCEPT the top five or six members of administration.

I simply forwarded it to those members and the next day an apology appeared where Jesus once was.

I say pass it on to the superintendent.

8. Oh for fu( |< ing Christ sake
Don't be getting all childish about that crap. Just be glad you know better and SMIRK to yourself. It isn't worth your energy to be anything other than amused by it. Pissing and moaning and writing bitchy little letters to baboons who believe the same dumb shit isn't going to do one good thing for you.

You know, back in the day when I was in a union they used to say a prayer at the beginning of the meetings. It made me want to puke. I just started going to the bar next door for the first fifteen minutes of the meeting.

:toast:

I haven't been on this board in a long time and I don't know you. No insult intended; just tearing you down and setting your head right if you plan on going through life godless without depending on therapy and/or meds for all or most of it.

9. I keep reading this
and here is my answer -

be indignant every chance you get.... it's fun!:bounce:

Wheeeeeeeee!

I think I would just try to ignore it just like I try to ignore all the lame religious crap I am forced to hear and see on a daily basis.
