Berman not part of Trek 11
www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=3&id=35641

Longtime Star Trek writer and producer Rick Berman, who joined the franchise at the feet of creator Gene Roddenberry, will not be involved in the proposed 11th Trek film, to be directed by Mission: Impossible III helmer J.J. Abrams, SCI FI Wire has learned.

A Paramount spokesperson confirmed that Berman—who started with Trek under Roddenberry in 1987 as a writer and producer on TV's Star Trek: The Next Generation—would not take part in Abrams' film. "J.J. is also a producer, and Rick Berman is not involved in any way," the representative confirmed over the weekend.

Oh, happy dance.
:woohoo:

Maybe they could bill the next movie as: Star Trek 11: 100% Berman and Braga-less

1. I'll second that woohoo
about Berman but that plot idea, the first meeting of Kirk and Spock doesn't excite me as much as the idea I heard here: http://www.scifi.com/sfw/news/sfw_news_20060417.html

The formation of the Federation sounds like more interesting fodder and I think it would be good to have a completely new cast of characters.

2. And another woohoo from me!
No B&B!! :woohoo:

I like the idea for this one. I'm just a little bummed that there's no mention of McCoy.

3. Abrams speaks
"The whole thing was reported entirely without our cooperation," says the director with a hint of regret. "People learned that I was producing a Star Trek film, that I had an option to direct it, they hear rumours of what the thing was going to be and ran with a story that is not entirely accurate."

4. M:I 3 turned out to be pretty much rubbish too.
And prequels are very iffy; I'm surprised people can stand the Star Wars ones...

Good to know they're out, but to see a 24 y/o Kirk banging chicks is not what I had in mind; I've never liked the prequel idea, which started as far back as the basis for ST6:The Undiscovered Country!

6. Don't like prequels much either...
Although, I didn't mind Enterprise so much...if they had worked to stay original rather than ripping off from other Trek series it might have done much better.

I was hoping for a little farther down the road with new characters rather than something like this.

5. Maybe that'll break the "odd-number curse" for ST movies!
