Reeves To Stand Still
(snip)
Twentieth Century Fox has set Keanu Reeves to star in The Day the Earth Stood Still, its re-imagining of the 1951 Robert Wise-directed SF classic movie, Variety reported.

Reeves committed over the weekend to play Klaatu, a humanoid alien who arrives on Earth accompanied by an indestructible, heavily armed robot and a warning to world leaders that their continued aggression will lead to annihilation by species watching from afar.

"The Day the Earth Stood Still" is one of my favorites, it'll be hard to resist going to see a remake but perhaps I cringe at the thought of it. I'm not a Keanu hater but some of his performances are certainly cringe inducing. Reeve's dead pan, bland delivery might fit Klaatu partially but I have serious doubts about his ability to bring the depth of the character Rennie did, just to subtle for Keanu IMHO.

Now on the other hand if they had cast him as Gort... ;)

1. nothing is sacred
in hollywood.
No matter how flawless or complete a film may be, sooner or later, it will be dug up, measured, re-viewed, colorized, taken apart, and put back together with little to nothing in common with its original save the desire to squeeze a few more bucks out of the license. And of course, no new ideas.
Sad.

2. OTOH ... interesting to note how completely different it is from the short story that "inspired" it.

4. You must go to Gort and say these three words, "Klaatu barada nikto, dude"
Whoa, that's four.
