Carnivale (1/30) discussion & SPOILERS
So what did everyone think? Hello granny Scudder! Henry is born, and she kills her husband and other sons? My goodness. Good thing Ben got a standing invite to come back whenever he wants. "Yeah, sorry about that burying you alive stuff, we didn't mean to, hope y'all will come back for our next pig roast!" (Or whatever it is they roast. :scared:)

So why did Granny Scudder tell Ben his father was dead? What will Ben learn from the maskmaker? Will Sophie ever read his cards? Ruthie has seen her 3rd dead person now - what are they telling her?

Brother Justin got his groove on - and drove Celeste crazy. Will he sacrifice Iris? He sure seems to waver, but Iris has some power over him even if he won't let on that she does.

Great episode! Moving quickly - how interesting in the preview for next week, Stroud catches up with the Carnivale troope. Wonder what Samson is gonna do to him...

1. A definitely better story than last episode. Fine stock, our Ben
comes from - KKK& Deliverance. Harder and harder I'm buying his role as the goody-two-shoes. Glad we got a bit of Carnivale characters interacting - I was starting to miss that. Jonesy/Libby, Rita sue and the rowdy carnie etc.

2. I was expecting a bit more information.
I'm going to watch it again on the west coast here real soon.

What was Iris burning? Was it her outfit from the orphanage fire?
I think Sophie will read the cards next week for Ben. She needs relief too. I think it will bring them together, Sophie and Ben for a common cause....

Granny was a disappointment.

Did Ben take the knife? And why does he speak like such a hick, and curse all the time to Management?

3. I'm pretty sure Ben took the knife.
Once Justin had the vision of being killed with it, that pretty much settled it for me. Must be the same knife Granny killed all those Scudder men with. Enchanted or something.

6. I watched it again.....

and saw the knife in his britches......I'll watch it again tonight via On Demand.....I want to catch a few lines that sounded muffled.

I'm soooo crazy to be doing this......

By the way.....Sophies mom is "there"......

Sophie's mother is following her. If you look back at the episode where Ben picks-up Sophie on the road.....just before that there was a scene of Sophie walking. You can look closely and see two shadows; one is Sophie's and the other a taller, veiled shadow...her mother.

That is who Ruthie saw in this last episode.....

Lots, and lots of little clues! Gheeze, this is fun.

8. She is no longer useful.....
and she knows way too much about his powers. She may be able to harm him in some fashion being the sister.....I'm going to think about that more today....Hmmmmmmm

Good question.

14. I wonder about Iris
I'm not sure she has fully evolved. If Justin is the new usher, the new monster that will pave the way for evil, maybe Iris is a part of that evil. He is both protecting her and hanging her at the same time. I'm not sold on Iris being just like the rest of us yet. She may play a bigger part in this then we know.

4. I loved it
More great details about Ben's background. I love that his grandpa was Nathan Forest's deputy and a grand dragon. Those Scudders are just pure evil. The crone scared me a bit. That was some fine acting.

I am anxious to see Ruthie tell Sophie about seeing her mom, and the other "ghosts". I think Sophie will get back to reading soon.

9. The old crone
I assume she was "testing" Ben by making him close his eyes before she handed him the knife? All the other Scudder kin appears to be, as you say, pure evil. Ben closing his eyes and trusting her meant he was not evil?

11. Part of you knows that Ben will be OK.
Obviously, he's the protagonist. But yeah, they did really build up the suspense in that scene. I don't think my wife & I even blinked during it. I know I say it a lot, but this is just a fantastic show. I don't know that a television program has ever grasped onto me like that.

12. I thought she was going to stab him, I really did
I'm not sure that the crone is not evil, with the whole slaying of her family and all, but I was glad she did not stab Ben. She is crazy, but had a lucid moment there.

13. Nice touch there.......
He did have an innocence about him in that scene.

The rest of the family is definitely "ate up".....

15. Could Karl Rove be a Scudder kin?
Those relatives looked like a BFEE Kitchen Cabinet.
