Deadwood update
Season 1 is now available on DVD, and Season 2 starts March 6.

Great show. Ian McShane deserves an Emmy.

1. Love Deadwood
I have been re-watching the first season on HBO the last few weeks. I think we both like the same shows. West Wing, Carnivale, Deadwood . . . Are you a Survivor fan too?

2. HUGE Survivor fan
Season 10 starts up next week. I'm one of the administrators of a Survivor discussion board dedicated to absolute non-spoiler discussion. We all left alt.tv.survivor because of the growth of spoilers a few seasons ago, and found we like it.

Not a West Wing fan, just never got into it. Sopranos fan, though, but not as much as Carnivale and Deadwood.

Also love Amazing Race. I enjoy Big Brother as a nice way to pass the time, but that's about it for reality TV.

Oh, Season 2 of Survivor (Australia) is out on DVD April 26. That's the whole season. Woo hoo! I'll get all the seasons (already got season 1) except All Stars, which was just painful.

3. I can hardlt wait for Season 10
I am counting the days. I have all of Season 2 on VHS, but I will but the DVD set. I think Season 2 was the best, and my wife and I debated what would have happened if Michael did not fall into the fire.
I can't wait to get the DVD set.

4. Had Michael not fallen in the fire
Kucha wins the challenge before the merge. Pagonging of Ogakor ensues, with Colby going first.

Once a few Ogakors go (Jerri, Tina, etc) things get interesting. Kucha was split: Rodger/Elizabeth/Michael vs Alicia/Nick/Jeff.

Whichever of them got clever and pulled an Ogakor (likely Amber) first would win that challenge. My money would be on Alicia/Nick/Jeff. Nick has no chance of winning, sadly. The question is, does Alicia take him or Jeff? I think probably she takes Jeff, and Jeff wins, barely, setting up a problem for MB: the first two winners were gay men. Oops. :D

5. WOW
Thats pretty interesting. I wondered where Michael would go. You are right that Roger and Elizabeth were the only two who actually liked Michael. Alicia and Jeff were getting tired of him playing the tribe leader role.

7. Heh
The "What If?" of Mike's Fire Dance is an old game I used to play with other Survivor fans, so that didn't take much to come up with.

As usual with Survivor predictions, all bets are off if someone starts winning immunity.

6. What I Love About Deadwood
The story itself doesn't do a whole lot for me, but oh, man. The dialog is poetry.

It's bliss to see a TV program's writers attacking WITH the English language instead of attacking the language itself, for a change.

8. Amen
My daughter and her friends (7th grade) have decided it's cool to use curse words, particularly "fuck". I overheard it, and may well be the coolest dad ever.

I told her that she was using it wrong. If she's going to use that kind of language, it has to have a rhythm, and cadence, that makes it effective. So, on occasion, I call her in to hear one of Al's tirades. THat's how to use language.

Notice that every character speaks differently? And that they also speak differently depending on who they're speaking to (esp. Al)?

You're right, this is fantastic dialogue and writing.

9. my favorite Al Swearingen quote
“In life you have to do a lot of things you don't fucking want to do. Many times, that's what the fuck life is... one vile fucking task after another.”

from Episode 9

I've used this quote repeatedly in my daily life.

One vile fucking time after another.

10. Yes, I Have Noticed
And I have a particular fondness for those who speak more formerly. I've only watched two episodes, though.
