Jerry Orbach, "Lennie" of Law & Order, dies at age 69
Jerry was diagnosed with prostrate cancer last spring. Fans thought he was responding to treatment, but he died from the disease on Tuesday. He played the detective Lennie Briscoe on "Law and Order" for 12 years, retiring only last year. He was supposed to take on a smaller role in the latest L&O spin off, which will premiere in the spring. I don't know if he filmed any episodes or not.

He was also Broadway star, playing in "The Fantastics" and "Chicago" among other plays. He was in the films "Dirty Dancing" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors."

He will be missed.

1. He is my favorite L&O character
Law and Order hasn't been the same since he left (I don't care for the new guy), and the show seems to be taking a hard right since that Fred Thompson (the ex Senator) came aboard.

3. He was very, very good as the Dad in Dirty Dancing.
That scene out on the deck with him and Baby made
me cry.

6. I cried a little when I read the article about his funeral..
all of his former and current 'partners' were there, as well as Epatha Merkersen, and Sam Waterston, who gave one of the eulogies.

My older brother is a retired NYPD cop, and he said Lenny, Anita (the 'Lou') and Finn (Ice-T) on SVU do the best jobs as acting as cops.

They've filmed a few episodes with him in the new show. I've read that they are trying to decide whether to use them or not.

He was a friend of animals as well. He did a lot of work for an animal charity in NYC, Bide-a-wee, from where I adopted one of my cats.
