I know this is coming from Andrew Sullivan,
but in fact the same thought has been lurking in the back of my mind over the past week or so, as I watch a seemingly unhinged Dick Cheney dart around the world trying to accomplish god-knows-what.

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/02/the_hersh_piece.html

If Cheney decides to bomb Iran without Congressional approval, then we're not just headed for a massive increase in violence in the Middle East and the U.S., we're also facing a constitutional crisis and a military revolt. Sane hands would never begin to countenance such a gambit. But Cheney's going down. And people who know they're doomed can do crazy things.

Thoughts?

1. I was actually beginning to wonder if he is a target of someone here in the US working with someone

in the ME. The other day his plane had some sort of mechanical problems that delayed him and then this bombing today. I don't know, though about what you say. Is it possible people would let get as bad as you describe? I would think if he is crazed someone would attempt to eliminate the Cheney threat in one way or another.

3. In a sane world, yeah.
Someone would stop him. But who has the ability to do so, as well as the guts? I'd bet Bush is intimidated by him, if he even notices - he's completely disengaged, as far as I can see.

I kept waiting for honorable, sane people to step up during 2004, but either not enough of them did, or they were ignored by the media, or they didn't push hard enough. I am more and more gung-ho for impeachment every day - but I'd start with Cheney. I think he's the more dangerous party here.

2. He sounds pretty certain about Cheney

I wonder why? I haven't yet read the Hersh piece. But now I absolutely have to.

Edit to add: Military intelligence types after Cheney, perhaps?

4. Maybe.

I've personally completely given up on hoping to understand what's really going on. Too many layers on my :tinfoilhat:? Paranoia seems the only healthy response.

Edited to add: I believe the reference to Cheney "going down" may be related to the ugly truths that were unearthed during the Libby trial.
