Retired Army Col. David Hackworth has died
i posted an article on this in the LBN forum. he was a good man and he was one of those who defended Kerry against those attacking his military service record.

i didn't even know he was sick and seeing the news he died was a surprise.

i think Fox News got rid of him because he would not go along with the propaganda. i once saw they were bashing him also.

very sad to see him go.

3. Yes, it is very sad. I signed his guest book just now
and for those who wan to sign it also, you can sign it at his web site http://www.hackworth.com and send condolences to his wife, Eilhys England Hackworth.

And Yes, he did defend Wes....actually publicly changed his mind about him once he met him. Initially was the one who coined the phrase "perfumed Prince" in association with Clark, and then took it all back in a column, after spending three hours with Wes for an interview.

That's the sign of a true genuine person with integrity and honor...one who once becomes informed can change his judgement.

4. thanks , will sign it
i think i remember the whole perfumed prince thing. for a while Hackworth did move more conservative but i think Bush getting into office and seeing all the things he was doing kind of helped him show how evil and extremist the Republicans really are.

i'm glad he was willing to rethink his views when he learned more.

6. Shame from all I know about him, he seemed like a great guy
Who didn't like soldiers being taken advantage of period. Pretty balsy guy it seemed from what I read on his bio, he joined the merchant marine as a 14 year old in WWII, my one brother is 14 to put things in perspective and an 8th grader.

7. I am very sorry to hear this.
I checked 'Hack's' website all the time. He wa a true and good voice for the average soldier and did his best to highlight the issues that the Pentagon wanted hidden. His website was (and I hope still will be) and excellent source of information directly from the people who are fighting the Iraqi war.

Godd bless and 'At Ease' soldier.
