Kerry slandered (yet again) through Wikipedia vandalism
Crooks and Liars reported this whopper listed in the Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiftboating

"Swiftboating is American political jargon for truthful and accurate debunking of John Kerry's exaggerated military experience in Vietnam. The Swift Boat Veterans For Truth organization's ads against Democratic presidential candidate Senator John F. Kerry in the 2004 election campaign revealed the candidate to be untruthful in his representation of his military record. Swiftboating is a new political term for exposing the truth while being under constant attack from those that desperately want to believe the lie."

Someone needs to inform Wikipedia what they have posted is a lie. I was looking to see if John O'Neal or Robert Novak added the entry. (hat tip AS) It looks like the entry is undergoing various changes as you refresh the page.

It's now been fixed and the Wikipedia page is marked

This page has been temporarily protected from editing to deal with vandalism. Please discuss changes on the talk page or request unprotection.

1. And just for fun,
and because I'm in premature mourning for my Morning Sedition, here's their own version, titled John Kerry Took My Shoe.

2. That was really funny.
I am also in premature mourning for MS. I am going to miss Lawton Smalls real bad. Sigh!

3. I'm SO sad
about it. I've gotten used to waking up every weekday morning with a laugh, no matter how bad the news is - and it's been pretty damned awful. Rachel Maddow is great, and I'm happy for her, but honestly I want a laugh in the morning. I'd prefer Rachel at noon or so, when my brain's awake.

I hope they do give Maron his own evening show. I'd definitely podcast it even if they don't carry it in Boston.

4. Totally agree with you both!
I was SO heartbroken when I heard the news first thing Monday morning...

There's a list of AAR board members and sponsors on their blog, and I'm so tempted to continue the fight, even though it seems to be hopeless. I hope it's OK to attach it below.

It's insane to kill the one REAL radio show (as opposed to monologue/news/talking head -- much as I adore Randi!) the network has, out of what seems to be sheer stubborness on Goldberg's part.

I am trying to hold on to the hope that Marc will be available from L.A., but it's about more than him -- the ensemble on that show is amazing and it's just not as good without any one of them!

5. I'm glad you put the list up.
I was emailing like mad for a while, but slacked off since. I don't understand the thinking behind this move - it makes no sense at all. I can't imagine most people want heavy first thing in the morning. Rachel has a great sense of humor, but she does a serious show. Morning Sedition does such a great job easing you into the day.

I heard Goldberg was offended by the humor. It's not very PC, but that's why I like it. Why does he imagine Imus does so well in the morning? It's sure not because of the way he reports the news. And Maron plays a great Everyman - you feel like you're learning along with him.

My okder son lives in Manhattan, and he and my daughter (who was visiting) went to one of their live shows in August. It was wonderful. They brought me autographed pictures of Mark and Marc. :-)

If anyone asked my opinion I'd offer Jerry Springer up as a sacrifice in a heartbeat.

And if it's any consolation, it sounds like Jim Earl is moving to LA too, and if Martc gets a show I'd bet anything Earl will be part of it. Sniff. I love Sammy.

7. It's a little consolation, but....SOB!
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 06:43 PM by Luftmensch067
It's just such a perfect show and so MANY people love it. Ever since we first heard that it was in danger, I've been amazed at how so much of the comedy from this show has become a part of the collective cultural consciousness (if you talk to the right people! LOL!) I love how people have been saying things on the MS blog like "Firetruck!" and how I've seen quotes from Sammy or Lawton Smalls or the rest. They're brilliant creations. I was nearly DYING this morning over the Morning Remembrance of the guy who played Fred Flintstone...

I could have gone to a live show in NYC this fall and I DIDN'T. I'll always regret that!

Goldberg was OFFENDED? If so, he's a miserable, humorless jerk and I want him out of MY AAR. :-)

Which, I guess, nearly doesn't exist anymore. I love Rachel, too, but I probably won't listen to her every morning like I listen to MS. And, apart from Randi and sometimes Al (I always have to listen on Thursdays when he has Oliphant on!), there's really nothing left of the AAR that got me through the last year and a half. Springer! Feh!!!!

8. email this morning from Rob Glaser
re: morning lineup

Hey everyone --

Thanks for writing to share your views on our programming, and especially our morning show. While I am not able to respond individually to each message I got, I did want to send all of you a note acknowledging that I got your e-mail messages (which I passed on to the Air America team in New York). I also want to pass on a few general thoughts in response to the most common themes in your notes:

First and foremost, thanks for caring enough about Air America to take the time to write. I was moved, by how passionate you all are about Air America and really struck by the thoughtfulness and lucidity of the vast majority of the messages I received. Your passion energizes me and my colleagues at Air America even more than you probably realize.

Second, I want you to know that the decision to change Air America's
morning line-up was not made capriciously. Air America's senior
management looked at the situation from lots of different perspectives including ratings, the needs of our over 70 affiliates around the country, how we can best serve the market going into the 2006 election year, and talent considerations. I know most of you have liked Morning Sedition as it has been, but I hope you will give the new Air America Mornings show a fair hearing. I believe you will like what you hear. Mark Riley (as you know) is a great broadcaster. Rachel Maddow (who you may have heard on her current 5am slot) may well become the next superstar of talk radio.

Third, we love Marc Maron and hope we are able to work things out so he can remain part of the Air America family. Los Angeles (where Marc is moving to) is a very important market for us. We'd love to have a live show with Marc based out of L.A. if we can figure out a mutually agreeable way to make this work.

Fourth, and most importantly, let's all try to keep focused on the big picture. Air America is about creating a national progressive voice, and not just letting right wing talk radio dominate the airwaves and pollute the culture. With the 2006 elections coming up, we have an opportunity to take our country back. Let's make the most of that opportunity!

Thanks again for caring so much about Air America.

Rob

9. My head hurts, just reading the "definition" of "Swiftboating" there.
GOD.

A friend of mine and I once bonded over John Kerry and the lies the right wing spread about him during the last campaign. It was good, if nauseating, fun.

Me: "Did you know that John Kerry secretly owns even more of America than Saudi Arabia does?"

Him: "Did you hear that John Kerry wants to create a 'one-world government,' dissolve U.S. and all other countries' authority and put microchips in everybody's hands?"

Me: "Did you hear that John Kerry and John Edwards are gay lovers and have been for many years?"

Him: (looking distressed) "Did you know that John Kerry once had an affair with an underage intern that lasted longer than Bill's tryst with Monica and was like, six times as perverted?"

Me: "Did you hear that John Kerry personally prolonged the Vietnam War two extra years? Through his own actions? While possibly committing treason at the time?"

Him: (pounding head on desk) (incomprehensible groaning noise)

After that convo, we became goooood friends.

10. Posted on Unofficial Kerry Blog yesterday
Someone posted this as a comment yesterday. By the time I got this Wikipedia had restored the correct definition.

One line I particularly liked:

"All available military records support Senator Kerry's accounts of his own service."

11. Mention at Democratic Daily
I mentioned this incident in a post at The Democratic Daily, along with more general comments on rewriting history--by both the right and some on the left.
