Anyone catch Imus the last two mornings?
It's been a McCain love-feast. Yesterday it was the maverick mantra and today he was comparing him to Abraham Lincoln. I tell you what, Senator Kerry needs to make an appearance on Imus again real soon.
I am hoping this will come within the next two weeks. Imus mentioned he would be in Mass. for St. Patty's Day festivities. Can we hope Kerry will be there and McCain won't?

1. Yes - it was sickening

What was Doris Kearns Godwin thinking? McCain as a modern day Lincoln? (Only Olyphant, who wasn't willing to join the McCain love fest, bring up Obama instead, had any sanity.)

All I can hope is that they are setting the expectations so high, that when McCain runs - and shows some non- desirable characteristics, he will be faulted for not walking on water. It's worth mentioning that he had similar wonderful press in 2000 (when there were no Bush hugging photos) and it didn't translate into votes. The question is if he learned anything. (Really odd question: would the Kerry relateed anti-swiftboat group help McCain if attacked?)

As to Massachusetts, I know Kerry and Kennedy didn't go last year, but don't they usually go. (McCain going might be weird with Romney - possible competitor, hated Governor)

3. Interesting question. And thank goodness for Olyphant.
I wasn't able to catch that portion of the show. I also didn't follow the McCain campaign back in 2000 so I wasn't aware of all the good press he received back then. He still did come out of that campaign with a favorable rating with the media even though he didn't win. I wonder why this is so difficult for Kerry to achieve?
I would assume that some of Imus's endorsement of McCain comes from the current front runner in the Democratic party- H. Clinton. Having the opportunity to pick your own poison, I would suppose McCain is more palatable to him.

4. McCain didn't complete the course
He was taken out in the early primaries. It was also possible to spin the fact that his loss was somehow 'noble' becuase he lost as a truth-teller. (The media bought that whole 'straight talk express' thing, hook, line and sinker.)

Kerry went the distance and more bad press got out about him. It will take longer to counter that. The press still loves McCain because he spoon fed them the illusion of access in 2000 when he had them all on the bus. (Plus, he is a friendly guest for the talk shows. The insiders in DC think that becuase McCain is on the talk shows and hand feeds them stories that he is automatically the front-runner for '08.)

McCain has to be really tested out in the field. The man does have a bad temper. He is also petty and somewhat egotistical. The possiblity of major gaffes and blowups is high. That would tarnish his image.

At this point in time, everyone looks good. No one, incluidng the Jr. Sen from NY, has been field tested. Wait and see what happens.

8. I agree with your point

They were actually symthetic even as he was smeared and pushed out in 2000. He never lost the good press.

Kerry on the other hand wasn't on their "we love him" list in 2003, or even in Jan- March 2003 as he quickly became the nominee. It's interesting that he seems to be making some friends - especially on the radio. Most of the Sunday talk show people at least respect him - I doubt after so many years they will suddenly like him -and I think it is the reason you have always said - he doesn't pander.

In 2003, the only mentions I heard of Kerry's campaign was speculation on when he would just give it up because no one wanted him to run. So, nothing was lost. (But something was gained - he has the ability to reach 3 - 5 million people directly by passing the self- important pundit class.)

10. In the interest of the total picture,
McCain did win NH in 2000, which is why Rove did what he did to him in SC. McCain's phony maverick image is a natural for NH, where people pride themselves on voting so as to upend comnventional wisdom.

2. Again? Boy Imus loves to come to Boston for Paddy's Day
It's a happening place. I guess Imus likes the snarkiness of the whole thing. (Well, it is fun.)

GV told me this week that we in MA/NH are spoiled because we get to see certain Dems a lot and hear about them on the news and such. (Yeah GV, you're right. We are spoiled. I feel guilty that I get to call Sens. Kerry & Kennedy and you have to send notices to Icky Ricky. I loved your explanation for why people came to Boston last Dec and the reminder to me that not everyone gets to see Kerry so often and that I am spoiled rotten. I should consider the fact that many people do like him and miss him after the 2004 race. All true and I should have considered that when I registered my shock at people being so willing to come to Boston last Dec. Obviously, I am a tad thick in the skull sometimes. You were right, my dear.)

The St. Pat's Day stuff is another moment of 'being spoiled rotten.' (Ahm, sorry? I promise to share? Ahm, I will try and upload video to Pamela and Dr. Ron of any Kerry appearances at St. Pat's Day events? Ahm, sorry?) I know of 5 breakfasts in my area. The 'big one' is in Boston and is televised on a local channel. (I have no idea if C-Span will take the feed as well.) This show starts at 8:00 AM when they have the 'Live from the Green Carpet' pre-show which is an hour of speculation on which pols will show and what they will say. (Think of the Joan Rivers Oscar pre-show, only with and about pols.)

The Breakfast starts at 9:00 am and ends around 12:30 pm. It is hosted by the State Senator from South Boston. There is an Irish band on the stage and much group singing. (You can't have a St. Pat's Day event properly without singing. It simply isn't done. We are a singing bunch around here.) Every office holder in Eastern Massachuesetts gets to stand up and do a few minutes of commentary and jokes. (That's actually the draw. Who can pull off a joke and who will just suck. I love that part.) I expect that Sens. Kennedy & Kerry will attend this year. They usually show up late in breakfast, after everyone else has been given the chance to take pot shots at them. Then they can sing. Or recite poems or stuff like that. (Or some at the same time.) I adore this. (Of course, this is such an important event that many pols hire professional joke writers for the event. Sometimes it helps, sometimes they are still just not funny. Sigh! Sen. Kerry, I think, writes most of his own stuff. It looks like it's just too much fun to say to think that he didn't write it as well.)

That's why Imus comes. It's a fun event. That Friggin Idiot often calls in. (boo, hiss.) The Governor and Lt. Gov will be there (and be unfunny again.) All the good folks who are running for Gov will show. Sen. Kerry should come cuz he skipped last year's event. Imus has been there before. It's all good.

Do people who are not in Mass have events like this? (Do they involve singing?)

5. Surely you are joking, with Senators Santorum and Specter and
a legislature in PA mostly consisting of Republicans? First, they wouldn't spend the money and two, they aren't any fun any way!

We are spoiled. (It's privately paid for, btw. Or the video rights cover it.)

12. Oh, I saw it all right.
Disgusting. Grosses me out to think that Imus uses that same mouth to kiss his wife as he does to kiss McCain's pasty white ass (I can only imagine it matches his pasty white face)every day. Dierdre should insist that he shower, brush, floss and rinse thoroughly after work before any physical contact whatsoever.

I wish Imus would just do him and get it over with. I'm so sick of the love fest I'm almost tempted to switch off Imus and watch that brainless twit on CNN while I get ready for work.

McCain is nasty. Inside and out. And Imus' fawning is becoming absurd.

13. My feelings on this show of support for McCain may have to do
with the possible Democratic frontrunner. Do you think in a million years Imus would support Hillary and vote for her?

14. From his comments he really really dislikes Bill Clinton
and has no use for Hillary. He's also obsessed with "winning", which leads him to sometimes call Kerry names.

With McCain, I think he buys into all the hype and they get along.

15. I think McCain is a not a threat to his ego.
It's easier for the hopelessly insecure to support someone they don't see as competition. And despite his bravado, or maybe because of it, I think Imus needs constant reassurance. Look at the people he surrounds himself with on his show. Bunch of weak-kneed ass kissers.
Same with Tweety. McCain makes both of them look almost manly.
What's Tweety doing on his upcoming show, anyway? An all republican love fest? Did anyone see the promos?
