The Bushes are the Anti-Kennedys
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 12:05 AM by elshiva
Heard after the coronation the sickening truth: the Bushes try to be the anti-Kennedys. Dubya's sloppiness and drawl is contrast to the elegance of Camelot. It scares me.
I dig the Kennedys, so sue me. Everyone says they're overrated, I agree, but they are still good liberals with some sense of service and human decency (I know, I know except for the adultery).
Remember the 3rd debate where Dubya referred to JK as "Senator Kennedy." Major slip. Beating Kerry equaled beating the Kennedys. Kerry is loathesome, to the Bushes, if only for his strong Kennedy ties.

1. Kerry's Kennedy ties are part of why I was attracted to him intially
because I as a Irish Catholic, well I am part, but I just love the Kennedys. Bobby Kennedy is one of my biggest political heroes. I tried to get a job with Teddy but some stupid republican got it before me just because she wanted to "get drunk with him"

2. I love RFK, he's definitely my favorite.
RFK's daughter, Former Lt. Gov Kathleen Kennedy Towsend ran for Gov in MD and lost, boohoo!
Another thread I dedicated to Teddy because he is the forefront of the Kennedys now. Aren't some Kennedys running for political office in NY? Good for them!

7. Thats why the Kennedies are smarter than the Bushes
Well the Bushes are flirting with bah boring evanglical protestantism, the Kennedies are Catholics and averaging more kids than the Bushes.

9. The Bushes have a lot of kids too
Not as many as the Kennedy's but more than the average family. Even w/ so many kids, the Bushes haven't produced any thoughtful individuals.

5. Kennedy's, hmmmmm
I am going to do an oral history project with a guy I know who is going to go over the JFK history. This guy is 84 years old and remembers working for Jack when he was still a skinny guy back from the war. Should be interesting.

Kennedy's have declining influence in MA. Teddy's son is a US Rep from Rhode Island. The rest of them are scattered across the country. I don't see them having a lot of influence here in MA in the years to come. Time marches on for all of us.

11. Well, the Kennedys are a lot of things the Bushes aren't...
...Compassionate, cosmopolitan, classy. Rich as hell, but with REAL noblesse oblige. No wonder the Bushes hate 'em.

They're all better looking too. :P

12. Not that rich anymore
Teddy's holdings are vastly reduced. He is not the richest Senator anymore. (I think I saw an estimate in the 25-40 million range.) And that family has a vast amount of heirs. Heirs dilute fortunes. Most who have money now, Like Maria Shriver, married it.

14. maybe it wasn't a slip
to call him Senator Kennedy. Maybe he planned to do it at least once, as a code word for his base. I don't think he's as stupid as he looks. I think, in part at least, he cultivates that image. Not that he is brainy at all--just passably mediocre--a "C" student. He does have good political instincts--I'll give him that.
