School trip (lots of pics!)
I went with my son Garrett on his school trip to Dallas a few days ago. He's in the 6th grade and this trip was for his gifted science class. I knew we were going to be inside most of the time, so I just took my 50mm f/1.4 lens for all the available light shots. It was a challenge using this one lens: while it's great for low-light situations and for portrait-type shots, much of the time I felt like it was not wide enough or not long enough.

At the aquarium with his friends. Garrett is 2nd from the right, with glasses and his "Keep Austin Weird" cap.

Talk to the man(atee)! It kills me that this picture was over-exposed.

Group picture on the Grassy Knoll. Unfortunately no pictures were allowed in the Sixth Floor Museum, the JFK assassination museum. A real shame, too, because it's a very interesting place.

At the "Electric Theater" at the Science Museum. Gotta love the Tesla coil!

2. All great shots.
I am unable to pick any favorites.

I love the fast primes.
You use yours well!

3. Thanks! I love that lens.
For taking pictures of people (and sloths), it's hard to beat. And that nice creamy bokeh makes everything look so good!

4. That lens served you very well. Great photos.
"Resting" and "Shadows" are exceptional, beautifully composed.

6. Wowza
Incredible collection of photos and the blown up bits on the one manatee photo doesn't bother me at all.

Love the color in the "wench" photo and that shadown shot is awesome. Oh, and you can quite easily "zoom" with a 50mm lens. You have to set your camera to "manual zoom". Step closer. Step farther away.

7. Great shots and wouldn't
worry about the Manatee one so much, it is still a neat shot. Looks like everyone had fun though bet everyone was exhausted when it was time to head home. You met the challenges of having one lens very well.
