Poll question: OK, it's time we had some conflict in this group
Time we create division within ourselves. After all, isn't that the American way?

So who here shoots digital and who shoots film? I shoot digital so you're either with me or against me.

1. Other: Etchings
Who ever said, "Would you like to come up and see my digital?"

2. Both actually
But I put digital since that's primary mode now. Still use film when I want to shoot in pure black and white though. They can have my HP5 when when they pry it from my hypo smelling fingers.

5. Film is superior.
Because any technology is only as good as its readability. When the revolution comes, and the power grid is down, I will still be able to enjoy all my photos via the negatives. Whereas with digital, once your batteries die, your pictures will be gone until the revolution is quelled and the grid is restored. But even then, you better be one of the victors of the revolution, or you may be outside the power-elite that will have, umm, power.

14. when there is no more electricity
Somehow I think worrying about where is my pictures will be the least of my problems. I could just as well say digital is better because when we have to evacuate for hurricane (or when west Coasters have to evacuate for fire) you can just grab your hard drives and your CDs of pix and be on your way. I couldn't load up all my printed pix and slides from the 70s and 80s in anything less than an entire U-Haul. :-)

Also, with digital, it is easier for me to have some of my images hosted remotely elsewhere on the web. Worst case, I lose everything, I still have some of my pictures off-site where I can get them back. Living in Louisiana, I've known quite a few people who have lost all their family photos, so I do think about this a lot.

even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

6. I'm with you, Raging...
...but only because I'm too technologically challenged to figure out all that F-stop, aperture, light-meter stuff that the real photographers do with film. With the digital camera, at least mine, the image in the viewfinder changes as I change the settings so it's pretty clear what's going to happen, plus if it doesn't turn out right, I can just delete it and start over without having wasted any $$ getting it developed. A nice thing for those of us not too far along on the learning curve.

9. My Canon Rebel has those auto settings.
But you're right, being able to see the photo immediately and deleting the photos you don't like is a big plus to digital. So maybe both formats are equally good?

But I've just been changing up everything to see what it does.

11. I've done film and now I have digital and I will never go back
Not only do you save tons from not having to buy film, but you can also experiment with settings and exposure and all that stuff and see immediate results.
With film, unless you write every setting down with every shot -- and then study the photos afterward, you really can't do that.

12. I'm really out of whack.
Not only do I prefer film but like shooting with Holgas, pinhole and toy cameras.
I also like cross-processing and pushing film to it's limits.
I even enjoy creating Polaroid transfers on art paper.

13. Both, but professionally, it's hard to think of a situation were film
is a better choice.

I plan to play around with film a bit more, but it's mostly for nostalgia.
