2. You'll surely be disappointed...

that they were all taken with my Canon PowerShot G5. :)

No fancy lenses, ISO's or F-stops here.

For what it's worth, #3 looks the way it does because I intentionally didn't let the camera focus while taking snapping a shot of the TV screen in my darkened video production class.

6. That's actually 'permanent'
It's been there for years. I don't know who maintains it. At night, there are beer cans with candles inside them, which light it up, it looks really cool. It's in South Miami on South Beach.

7. I've taken photos of that castle, but I don't think it's there anymore
Not that I've been actively seeking it, but I usually spot it without looking for it. It's usually near 8th or 7th streets on Ocean Drive, but I've been out a few times lately and haven't seen it.

Nevertheless, it really is/was a piece of work.

18. I don't know that artist
my problem with the pic is that I took it because I had a great view of the puget sound out the window. It should have been water and then mountians far in the distance, but instead the window background got whited out.

Digital cameras...

Anyway, it was taken at the Everett Public Library in Everett WA.

19. It gets a Serendipity Award.
since you got an intriguing image that you did not plan on. As for "the one that got away" reminds me of wandering into a roadside cafe while hitching across Crete. The dining area was ao open roofed area built adjacent to the main building with a wall on the back. Dead center in that white wall was an opening and perfectly framed was a image of golden fields of grain, hills, and mediterranean sky that was just stunning. I thought about taking a picture, but ended up feeling that the technical aspects of doing so would only desecrate the experience, and never convey it. It got away from the camera, but it has remained with me.

As for getting the image outside, your camera probably has some way to control the exposure, maybe a way to take a reading thru the window and lock that in before reframing the picture.

20. Here's one of my rejects....
I actually think it would have been a better choice than the one I submitted, since the light and
shadow areas are more important to the impact of this photo than they are to my contest entry.

24. Ms F picked em
Edited on Wed May-25-05 10:33 AM by F.Gordon
When I happened upon the submission thread I went into panic mode. I had just been "playing around" - "experimenting" up to that point so I called in Ms F, the real arrteeste in the family, to help pick from what little stuff I had so far.

This one. Ms F; “boring...lacks interest” :-(

A Fork in the Shadow

And this one. Ms F; “decent...but it’s too subtle” :-(

The Passion of the Little White Tea Cup

I think the only reason she said she “liked that one” when I showed her my contest entry snapshot was because she knew I didn’t have much else and was just being nice. :eyes:

Coming from someone like you it means a lot.

Ms F helps kick me out of my anal retentive bizzaro world and push me into the creative "just do it" world. It's a constant personal battle for me.

26. Here's one I might have entered...
...if I had a proper film scanner, so I could get a clean scan of the negative. This came from a not-particularly-great print that needed a lot of photoshopping just to clean up dust spots.

I call it "Lincoln's Grave." ;-)

I think the top left of the picture needs to be dark and that would make the picture perfect.

It's beautiful. I'm partial to b/w.

29. That's what cropping is for...
Edited on Thu May-26-05 03:10 AM by regnaD kciN
Is that an improvement? I think it helps. If/when I get a decent film scanner, and get the original onto the computer, I'll see if I can darken that corner somewhat but, for the time being, removing it altogether seems the best solution.

I woke up one day (a couple summers ago) and when I went to grab my (crumpled) cash I noticed a dead bee on it. Must have gotten stuck in the house and died? :)
