A funny thing happened on the way to the farmers' market.
Thought I'd take the camera to the weekly farmers' market in the park at the bottom of our street. It's less than a 5-minute walk, so I took a detour through alleys a couple of blocks out of the way and doubled back. I did get some shots at the market, which I'll post later, but meanwhile, here are some I snapped on my detour.

Self-portrait (homage to Edward Hopper):

1. Your pictures make me love your neighborhood
ALWAYS, and these just reaffirm it. But would I even notice these same things? What an eye!

I can't even pick a favorite.

Anyway, looks like you have some great wabi-sabi candidates in there.........

I'm really looking forward to the farmer's market now.

5. Thank you. I think you would notice these things.
It's not a neighborhood that wows the eye on a large scale, so it comes down to ferreting out these small scenes. The alleys behind the major commercial street provide most of those opportunities.

2. Your neighborhood is lucky to have you in it. Who else could chronicle it like
this. Very emotional little journey you took.
The perfectly painted floating door does me in. So does its counterpoint, the one in black and white.
And how did Edward Hopper teach you to avoid getting the camera into your shot?

6. Here's a crop, lightened to show how I held the camera.

Hit and miss technique. You just have to wait for the autofocus beep and try your luck.

3. I too love the floating door
settled squarely above the sloping sidewalk. Is that you reflected in the window (standing on the chair lol)? How'd you take that picture without the camera showing? If it's not you in the reflection, how'd you take a picture of the reflection without you in it? Interesting!

7. See my reply above.
I hadn't even noticed when I took the shot that I appeared to be standing on the chair. Makes it a little more intriguing, I guess.:)

4. Door of Opportunity....
.......I love door shots, and I love black and white, so that first one was a 2-fer for me.

Also really enjoy the B&W steps, with all the line, angles, etc.

Nice that it's all within a 5-minute walk. Thanks for sharing your neighborhood.

9. My dear JeffR...
Wonderful as always, my dear Jeff...

I was especially taken with the twig w/shadow. At first I thought it had been carved into the surface (whatever it is) but then I saw it was a shadow...

Just beautiful!

As are they all...

I too am looking forward to your farmer's market pictures...

Thank you!

11. And thank you!
That twig is actually an old piece of electrical wiring. Why they would stucco the wall and not remove the wiring is one of those little neighborhood mysteries.

12. Say it ain't so.
Just head to Wasilla. Even the city hall there looks pretty wabi-sabi.

13. Especially in our drab, dreary weather.
 I just can't work up the energy to drive all the way out there to Jesusville.

Speaking of, did you see where we got to meet Max Blumenthal today, up here promoting Republican Gomorrah? I have my own signed copy. :) We love Max because he was one of the first national bloggers to pick up on Sarah's wackiness.
