MAJOR CHANGE in the January Contest -- PLEASE READ!
Edited on Mon Jan-04-10 01:40 AM by regnaD kciN
Well, it was bound to happen. We had one last spot open in the submission thread, and two members submitted an entry almost simultaneously. Worse yet, the "losing" submission was an excellent image from a first-time contributor. Then, before I could decide to take a "zero-tolerance" policy, one of the other entrants asked if she could change her entry. Normally, that's not a problem; but, this time, I'd have to rationalize refusing to let "entry 31" count, yet allow her to change to a new image submitted several hours later.

Given all this, I'm going to have to bite the bullet, invoke "host's privilege," and expand the field of entries to a maximum of FORTY instead of the usual thirty. I'll continue accepting images until the already-announced deadline, or until forty images have been received, whichever comes first. There will be four preliminary rounds instead of the usual three. The top two finishers in each round will make the finals, along with the top two remaining "at-large" entries. The contest will otherwise continue as usual.

By the way, this is the second time that the field in a monthly contest/challenge has had to be expanded to forty. The previous time was in December 2005. Anyone care to guess who was (co-)hosting it that time, too? ;-)

1. I think your decision is very smart!
As to who was co-hosting?

NO idea...

NOT!

You poor guy... you are definitely the lightning rod for these problems!

Thanks! Edited to add-- I just pm'ed Debbierlus, so she won't miss it this time.

Also, to ask a question--Did someone actually have a deleted post in the submission thread? Inquiring minds want to know!

Oh, also PM'ed tekisui as well.

6. Yay! This works out well, I think.
I love these monthly contests, so I was feeling a little disappointed that I missed by "just this much" (mainly because I'd been fiddling with the image sizing...), but am happy that this entry helped to make way for more beautiful image entries. Thank you!
I work mainly with fiber tapestries using the photo images, and acrylic paintings-but am loving the instant gratification that digital photos tend to give me. This is actually my 3rd entry using this "new" medium and I feel honored to participate with so much incredible talent here. I'm really glad I found this group! :hi:

8. So glad you are getting in "under the wire." You image is beautiful.
You ever hear about fiber artist Arturo A. Sandoval?
http://www.uky.edu/FineArts/Art/sandoval2.php

this work is huge, maybe 30 to 40' long. The round objects turn. I wish I had a larger image to show you.

This is a nice piece too.

9. Thanks, Alfredo!
I have my entry photo on my desktop, as it's my next tapestry project for the winter. I'll post a photo of the bridge in the comments thread to show the context.
I've heard of Arturo A. Sandoval but haven't seen much of his work-til now, it's fabulous! I'd love to see them "in person" to see the huge scale...thanks for posting this link!

10. He's a local character here in Lexington Ky. Him and the Late John Tuska
were the one two punch of our art school. I really loved Tuska, so did my wife. She was one of his models.

12. Four left
Looks like there are only four slots left. It looks like it may be another insane, unpredictable contest. Let's just hope there's no simultaneous 40/41. (Hope I didn't just jinx it...)
