Hole punch cloud

About a week ago at about sunset I saw a strange looking cloud to the East. I grabbed my P&S & took a few shots. After posting it on the local station's weather page I learned it was a Hole Punch cloud: http://weatherthings.com/holepunch.html





I then saw what appeared to be a smaller one to the North of it.

1. I'd never heard of these.

I worked across the street from the airport for 9 years and never saw anything like it.

2. That's the weird thing

I'm in a small town in Iowa, nowhere near an airport of any size. In fact the first responses referred to Palo, the site of the only nuclear power plant in Iowa.

3. yeah, but dozens, if not hundreds

of jets capable of doing that overfly you all the time... Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps... they are always up there
