Quinn says "signs"of a "great Democratic landslide" nationwide in November

Tony Quinn, co-editor of the nonpartisan California Target Book, sees danger signs of a "great Democratic landslide" nationwide in November (that could hurt Schwarzenegger in California - per the LA Times Michael Finnegan).

Gov. Faces Reelection Obstacles
Schwarzenegger brings in Bush operatives to help him overcome his dismal poll ratings, empty war chest and angry GOP base.
By Michael Finnegan
Times Staff Writer

February 24, 2006

<snip>Adding to his difficulties is the poor national political climate for Republicans. Public anger at President Bush and the GOP over the Iraq war, a lobbying scandal, a botched Medicare drug plan and other issues could hurt Schwarzenegger and other Republicans on the California ballot in November, said Tony Quinn, co-editor of the nonpartisan California Target Book election guide.

"The great danger is that's the way this year is starting to look," said Quinn, who sees signs of a "great Democratic landslide" nationwide in November.

Schwarzenegger's most immediate challenge is to tamp down the revolt among his party's conservative base, which he will face tonight at the state GOP convention in San Jose.

But his difficulties are far broader, as illustrated by a poll released this week by the Public Policy Institute of California.<snip>

"You can't beat somebody with nothing," said Republican strategist Stu Spencer. "And they've got two nothings."

2. The "danger signs"?? of a Dem victory???
by a "non-partisan" (said it twice even)election "guide"
1) Who/What party puts out "election guides"
2) why would a non-partisan anything label democratic victories as 'dangerous'

3. His lips to God's ears....
I think a lot of Republicans are going to have to break openly with Chimpy and his gang as fall approaches...and they're liable to be called to account for their past support.

8. The port deal has already caused deep fissures
and will resonate for months....the GOP has spent five years drumming into everyone's ears that "You got to fear them Ay-rab terrists" and now have to turn on a dime and go the other way....

The Abramoff stuff is also going to get bigger, not smaller....

6. Landslide. I like the sound of that.
It would be great if we got a margin like this:

House of Representatives
246 Democratic
189 Republican

Senate
58 Democratic
41 Republican
1 Independent

Governorship
30 Democratic
20 Republican

15. Yeah, I keep thinking there is no possible way that the Dems
will take back the House or Senate. The GOP might look bad in the polls, but that doesn't mean conservatives or Republicans will vote Democrat. And like zonmoy said, there is always Diebold to fix the election for the GOP.Plus it does not seem very likely that the Republicans will let their power slip away by a landslide or even by losing Congress.Once you have as much power as the Republicans have you don't want to lose that power.

Don't fall for it.

Something will come up. An immigration bill. Gay marriage. Most likely (IMO), a slate of abortion ban referenda on ballots in contested states. Or we'll attack Iran. Don't you know that if you vote out the Congress that authorized strikes against Iran, The Terrorists Have Already Won(tm)?
