Seriously, tell them that YOU refuse to get in the middle of it all, that you intend to remain on speaking terms with both of them, and that you will NOT LISTEN to their complaints about the other person.

If that doesn't work, then tell them that Mom is watching, and is mighty pissed at both of them.

Love them both, and whatever you do, don't call Dr. Phil.

Sorry you have to deal with that.

I don't know; if they can cover everyone over 55, and everyone under 27, then the middle needs affordable care that doesn't discriminate. If they offer subsidies to those who have financial hardship, provided the insurance companies can be regulated to avoid price gouging, maybe this whole thing won't be so terrible. I'm just trying to look on the bright side -- what little of one there is left.

26. Dear President Obama,
I like you and all, but I really don't think a small business is going to hire me just because you give it a tax break, and I am utterly unqualified to hold a job helping anyone winterize his or her home.

I write stuff. I edit stuff. I proofread stuff.

Yesterday I went to the doctor for a stronger antibiotic than the one I have been on, which did not finish the job. The doctor did not realize I have no insurance and prescribed me an antibiotic that would have cost me $275+ out of pocket. Luckily the pharmacy asked me about it first, called him back and got me a prescription for one of the free store antibiotics instead. Still stronger than what I was taking, but will not cost me $275+.

It is ridiculous that anyone should want to charge me more than $275 for an antibiotic just because I don't have a job. It is ridiculous that the Republicans want me to pay more than $275 for an antibiotic just because I don't have a job. Or is this my punishment for not being good enough at what I did? I guess that's what they'd tell me. Personal responsibility and all. Next time, do whatever it takes to keep your goddamn job, and you will not have to worry about the price of your antibiotics.

Oh, I have learned my lesson, all right. I sure have.

I only wish I could see the politicians who want to punish me for losing my job lose THEIR jobs.

28. Unfortunately, even if THEY lose their jobs,
they keep their salary AND health benefits. Personally, I think they ought to change that first.

Da Cheese is right there with ya, Berry - especially when Cobra expires in July. Until then, they take $600/month for the security of not being sick. :banghead:

33. And I sympathize with you entirely.
I feel as if I did everything right in this country and played by the rules, despite having acquired a disadvantage during my life that put a distance between me and the American Dream. But I still cannot get ahead despite having played by the rules. Because the game is fixed in favor of those who come from intact families, with wealth. That's it. :-(

36. Oh, and that Burger King 911 call is old, but still funny.
Keith got pissed off at that one the same way I did: who IS this spoiled SoCal brat who thinks that 911 is there to force Burger King to make a burger the way she wants them to so she can feed her goddamn kids? That's what she actually said on that call. I've heard the whole thing.

Yes, she really does think she's entitled to being protected from a cheeseburger not made her way that inconveniences her ability to feed her kids.

42. Like they sent to the woman who called 911 because her neighbors called in a noise complaint
about her and a cop was sent over to tell her to turn her music down, and she called 911 to ask to have him sent back over because she thought he was cute and the best-looking man she'd seen in a long time?

They sent him back over to her all right...to slap the cuffs on her.

41. There's a big problem in this country.
I can't really put my finger on it, but I swear we here all seem to have been raised differently. This sense of entitlement the generation after us seems prone to is maddening. I'm not sure exactly why this happened, this infantilization of America where no one ever has to take responsibility for their actions. I know I sound a little "Get off my lawn!" here, but it makes me crazy.

Don't laugh, but I think it started around the same time they began giving all the kids sports trophies for just showing up.

48. I agree with you. Maybe we're just being cranky old people, but I swear I never expected
the world to cater to me the way some people do. My problem is, I don't speak up ENOUGH. I think I have to make do or do without, rather than fighting for what I deserve.

I do think it was a mistake to start giving prizes to kids just for existing. Are you special? Yes. Are you unique? Yes. But so is everyone else, kid. You are going to have to share this world with all the other special, unique people out there. Yes, there are some situations in this life in which all should be treated equally and in which all can win, but there are still going to be uneven distributions of talents and situations in which you can get what you want only via working for it. The world doesn't revolve around your personal feelings, and it generally does not distribute participation ribbons. So deal with it as best you can.

I would tell them: "You will be surprised at what achievement, as opposed to just breathing in and out, will do for your self-esteem."
