Deoderant. Yea or nay? I'm ambivilant.
The older I get, the more I resent "beauty products". I'm having second thoughts about antipersperant deoderant and am wary about its effects on my body over the years. What is this stuff I'm rubbing on my body?

2. Last year I started using crystal deodorant.
I really like it. It's natural (it's crystal) and there's no scent or stain. I first saw it mentioned on DU. It's just a deodorant, not an antiperspirant. I really like it; I always hated using that chemical crap.

6. i get it at the health food store or the co-op
do you have a whole foods store or a wild oats? they would have it.

a lot of supermarkets in our area are also carrying natural products and organic foods.

i just googled it, and it says walgreens and cvs!

hope that helps!

5. I can't use Tom's
as it contains propylene glycol, and I'm allergic to it. If you have problems with it (it's a common allergen) you'd be best to look elsewhere. http://www.tomsofmaine.com/toms/ifs/propylene_glycol.asp

I like their toothpaste, however.

I use Avalon Organics lavender deodorant, which is pretty good. http://www.avalonorganics.com/?id=95

9. Maybe when the gas runs out?
;-)

I'm sure there are alternatives, but nobody's even looking at them yet. It is such a common ingredient...since I know it triggers my eczema, I'm much more aware of it. It's in EVERYTHING...

10. an offshoot...
EDTA that is in mayonnaise is also used in powdered detergents to make them 'flow better.' yuck. bring on the organic, natural mayo (and whatever other foods it may be in)!

11. Have you checked out the Vermont Country Store website?
I was just there because I heard they had some products from my youth (Heaven Sent perfume, Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo) and I saw a product called Lavilin long-life deodorant.

The ingredients are: Petrolatum, Potato starch, Zinc oxide, Talc, Glycine soja (Soybean) oil , Calendula Officinalis Flower extract, Tocopherol glycine soja (soybean) oil, Arnica Montana flower extract, Tocpherol, Citric acid, Ascorbyl, Palmitate, Fragrance.

The description says it was "developed by scientists concerned with the wide use of aluminum and other harsh chemicals in deodorants."

Here's a link: http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=30715&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=4&iSubCat=164&iProductID=30715
