Let's talk for a moment about shoes
Right now, I don't have that many pairs, but I've started to develop a shoe jones. I've found some styles that I really like, but I was wondering about color -- what exactly are shoes supposed to match?

Judging from the models in the catalog, it looks like it doesn't really matter if it matches the slacks or the top, as long as it coordinates in some way, but I'd like some feedback (I'm somewhat fashion-challenged ;) ).

Also, I remember Carson Kressley made a comment to the effect of only prostitutes and small children wear red shoes. Do you agree?

1. I remember hearing
that shoes are supposed to continue the color that is closest to them as much as possible. So, for example, you wouldn't wear a white blouse, black skirt, and white shoes but black shoes instead.

That's pretty much what I go by, though today I'm wearing a black top, pale green pants, and black sandals, so what do I know?

2. I like red shoes
I think they are good for the soul. Despite that awful story and movie about the dissolute wild girl and her red dancing shoes from hell.

My fave pair ever were some gold-lined pumps from Marshall Fields (when they were still in the Houston Galleria) that went from office to gin joint quite well.

4. i think sometimes you just have to see what it looks like with the clothes
to get an idea of whether it works or not.

i think if the clothes and shoes are more casual types then it might still look ok without matching in any way.

but on more formal wear it might be different. maybe you have a dress a certain color but wear accessories another color. and the shoes are the color of those accesssories. so it matches but without matching the actual clothes.

5. don't go there!
Right now, I don't have that many pairs, but I've started to develop a shoe jones..

I'm begging you, GET HELP NOW!

I think shoes should coordinate with your skirt or your pants, especially if you're a little bit of a novice at it. When you get more confident you can play around. Also, check the heel against what you're wearing; high heels do not look good w/shorts, no sandals w/skirts, These are general rules & can be broken on occasion when you get more confident.

I use to have a pair of red shoes w/3 1/2 inch heels. Man, did I kick butt in those!.

6. Oh, I know, but . . .
woven vamps, croco-prints, classic pumps in a rainbow of colors, cute casual huaraches, strappy sandals, fabric slings, nubuck walking shoes . . .

It's so hard . . . it's so hard! ;)

But I can't even imagine myself teetering around in 3-1/2" heels !

7. Yeah really! I just can't find shoes I like that have low heels
I look and I look. I always end up with some kind of flat black shoes cause the cute ones in colors have riduculously high heels.

8. No cheap shoes here
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 08:14 PM by The empressof all
Shoes are the one item I don't skimp on in terms of price. I've come to believe that you get what you pay for in this department. For someone like me who is cursed with wide feet and high arches it's impossible to find comfortable cheap shoes anyway.

I'm a Munroe lover. http://www.shoeparlor.com/istar.asp?a=3&dept=02&class=MUN&engine=adwords!2019&keyword=%28munroe+shoes%29&match_type= They have been my favorite brand for years and they actually come in my size and width. Well worth the money if you are looking for comfort.

9. I have just the opposite-
narrow feet & really narrow heels & expensive shoes are the only ones that fit well without blisters. Isn't that weird that the expensive shoes would fit both our situations?

10. I have big feet -- size 11.
I'm lucky to find shoes in my size! I go to Famous Footwear because I can scan the shelves and look for my size. Then I decide if I like the style. ;)

11. I'm not the one to ask....
My ethics get in the way of my shoe habit, inherited from my mother, the queen of the stiletto. She owns more high heels that any normal person I know (She's a middle class Imelda Marcos.) She even has high heeled, platform flip-flops. She also has permanently shortened Achilles tendons.

I only buy quality shoes, made with union labor, preferably in the US. Hah. So I kind of live in my Doc Martens 3 holes and DM Mary Janes. They go with everything, are comfortable, look good, and cause no comment, having been re and de-contextualized so many times. I own one pair of heels, a vintage pair of 20's or 30's walking shoes that my g-g-grandmother bought and never wore. I wore them for my wedding and only once since.

For exercise, New Balance or Keds or KSwiss. I hate flip-flops and most sandals, having badly rammed a toe as a child while wearing sandals and I hate getting stuff in my shoes.

Maybe I need to be checked to see if I really DO have an XX chromosomal pair....

12. Re: shoes and the XX chromosomes
I can relate. I just threw out (donated) a pile of shoes that I inherited but never, ever wore. I have two pair I keep at the office - brown and black - since I have to wear suits there. I'd tell you what kind of shoes these are but I have no idea how to describe them or what they're "officially" called. They're kind of like loafers, I guess.

Anyway, besides that I have, and kept, one pair of black dress shoes and a few pair of summer sandals. Mostly I wear sneakers, hiking/work boots, birkenstock sandals or a pair of clunky loafers that I toss on to wear on the way in to work. Oh yeah, and I still have a pair of "earth shoes" I got in high school back in the late 70's. I still wear them - a lot.

Never really understood the shoe fettish.

I wear them all the time. I have red clogs, sneaks and sandals. I feel cheerful wearing them. I like Carson, but he is wrong about the red shoes.

15. I Will Be So Fucking Happy When "Witch Shoes" Go Back Out of Style
When I was a wee one and my mom had a bunch, I thought they looked cool, but those were never as obnoxiously long & pointy as they are now.

They make your feet look so big!

(reviewer on this page gives them 5 stars)
I admired them, she says they're comfortable, and I think I'll get some!
If you like them, Google "Simple Ana sandals"- other places also have them in black, brown, and tan nubuck as well as "Bloody Mary"{dark red)

18. I'm wearing red shoes right now!LOL
I'm not that big on shoes. I also have trouble figuring out what goes with what, so I usually wear the same 4 pair of shoes in rotation.

The red shoes I have on are pretty modest, not wild. But I do have another pair that I think were only meant to be worn while lying down!LOL! REALLY high, with wrap-around ankle straps. I bought them purely to take sexy pictures for an old boyfriend. I have tried to wear them walking around the house to see if I could get used to them, but I just can't!LOL! But DAMN they are sexy!!! I really want a pair of red strappy heels to go with my hot red dress I plan to wear out salsa dancing. Haven't found them yet.

20. I love shoes, but I can't find anything I like right now...
I really need to find a pair that supports my feet, but are cute and summery. Everything I find has a heel, or is too tight, or cut the shit out of my feet. It's so annoying!! Work is Business Casual, and no sneakers allowed, except for on Fridays. Anyone have any suggestions. I need something without a heel, but will look good with capris and support my feet. Am I looking in vain?

24. Dansko clogs
They look incredible with everything, and are some of the most supportive shoes on the planet. They have a low heel, just enough to get you balanced right. They're pricey - 100 or so - but they go with everything, go everywhere (save hiking) and last a good long while. (I am officially in love with my pair after having been told about them by a teacher friend.)

Alternately, I'd say check Doc Martens.

I love red shoes. I was disapponted that I couldn't replace my red addidas the last time I looked for shoes. I ended up with a pink suede tennis-shoe that got used to and am happy with now. Heaven forbid I wear white. I'm artsy. I saw a movie director wear green nikes and yellow shoe laces once and totally fell for him.

Dress shoes - red is my color. But, red is my color for desses too.

I'm a brunette. Red compliments.
