Wanderafter
Hi all- I'm new here. There's some really good writing on this forum, and I write poetry sometimes. I haven't taken any classes, but just thought I might post some things here from time to time. I wrote this poem about a week ago, and was wondering if some of the poets here might have any comments or suggestions on how to make it better.

Wanderafter
on the platform without a suitcase
after hours, waiting
for the last plane into the twilight
the last train through the ruins.
the play is over,
masks cracked and fallen away.
in the blue wasteland, stars measure out
twenty light-years to peace.

a bus stops with a cough,
moves on in its shadow,
the grand plans have crashed down.
we are without plotlines to follow,
unglued, at last, from stiff masks.
a bus of bare souls tonight,
we exchange out-of-character glances.
we ask each other
about the games we played,
trade our stories at the world's end:
were we enemies
during the play?

darkness is merciful;
we can look at one another
hand out fallen stars
pick up rubble to build.
Not tall or proud! No!
we remember all too well
the crash,
but raise cautiously, along the scars
across the earth
shelters better suited
to wind-torn souls.
