Evening all.. I finally hit bottom, got back from detox, and and just need to write...
I had legal probs, and was told to goto AA meetings by the court.. I did but I didn't really listen and brushed it off.. I didn't take advantage of any programs and just figured I could control it myself.. Ive been drinking pretty bad and finally had enough the other night... ive screwed my life up so much dont want to continue like this anymore...

So I went into detox thursday night to get over the physical withdrawl, and now i need help with the mental.. I want to goto AA...and I want to listen... I told my family how bad it is and how i dont want to drink anymore so they are helping me...

I want this feeling to continue and the only way I can figure is to goto AA, find other programs, and just call my family when I get the urge..

I have to be successful cause the next time I fail its over, ill be on the street and a waste...

Does it help to call someone when you get the urge? Does asking to talk on here when I get the urge piss people off? Has anyone here had a good experience with hypnotism as a supplemental form of help?

Right now Im fine... But im terrified about tomorrow... and the next day...etc..

I don't mean to sound whiney, but this is scarey for me cause i know im totally fucked if I dont stop this and i know im going to deal with this urge for life..

from now on i'm calling you winner!

yes go to AA and tell them what you just told us, ask for phone numbers and call when you get the urge to drink, it really does help. in fact in most cities, they have people who will answer the phone 24/7 if you need to talk. you may want to go find that phone number

don't worry about tomorrow until tomorrow, but be grateful you are sober right now

I'm really glad you are here and you are welcome to read and write as much as you need to

Yes, go to meetings. Don't think, just go.

Try to say your name and that you are new when they ask for introductions at the meetings. This lets people know that you are new and they might seek you out to chat after the meeting.

Get phone numbers and use them. By calling a sober alcoholic, you are actually helping them more than they are helping you, so don't worry about being a bother.

Don't drink today. Don't worry about tomorrow.

straighten out a little, then...oh, what the hell, things aren't that bad. Then just a couple of drinks and the whole cycle starts all over. If you think you're feeling bad now, try another spree and you'll feel even worse.
So go to lots of meetings and don't drink in between no matter what. Go even if you don't want to go. Listen to what others have to say and try and make a couple of friends at first the go from there. Good luck and God bless you.

yes, call someone when you want to drink.

Get as many phone numbers as you can.
Many meetings have lists with the phone numbers of the members.
( all voluntary, of course)

Call Central Office in your town if no one else is available.

I'm with AZ Dem- you're a winner, and don't you forget it!

6. Hypnosis Is Very Limited
really by working a program you are programming your subconscious in a better and more sure way than you would be through hypnosis. But I certainly wouldn't tell anyone not to use whatever is in their interests and capability to use.

I've been trained in clinical hypnosis so I can tell you that the experience of hypnosis with any addiction is limited, and requires regular reinforcement (or repeat sessions) Tapes may be useful to help you feel reinforced.

12 step meetings are a hell of a lot cheaper and have a pretty good track record.

You know what? There were people there to help me, to lend me some of their strength to make up for the strength I did not have.

Reach out. Take that leap of faith. Try to consider every day you don't drink as something of a gift. And never, ever forget to keep clear and fresh in your mind your most miserable, painful, embarassing and demeaning moments you inflicted upon yourself while drinking. Keep them green and fresh, and never allow them to return to your life again. If you use them like that, they can become, in their way, a blessing as well.

Not drinking since March 27th, 1998. 3:30AM. I am still working on the sobriety part. Every day.

Oh, and yeah, I know us drunks often do that trust thing very well. Just reach out. As your mind clears, the trust will come naturally and more easily.

8. One day at a time
Realize that the future and the past are all in our heads, and all that matters is what we do right now. We can be afraid of what may come tomorrow, but just understand that it's not real yet and that there are many things outside of your control. Focus on the moment, and focus on the things that you can control. You're told to take it a day at a time, but sometimes you can't even manage that. Sometimes it's all you can do to stay sober for the next fifteen minutes.

I'm not an alcoholic, but I'm pretty convinced that we addicts all have much in common. There's strength in numbers. Support from fellow addicts has been amazing for me. With their help, and the help of my HP, I'm getting some sobriety under my belt. I'm starting to realize that hitting bottom was actually one of the best things that happened to me. It pushed me into recovery, which is where I am now and where I know I will be for the rest of my life in some form or another.
