A former juvenile prison guard who admitted sexually touching a 16-year-old female inmate will serve his 60-day sentence on weekends after his family vacation.

During the sentencing Thursday, Delaware County Common Pleas Judge W. Duncan Whitney at first ordered Paige, 47, to start serving his sentence June 17. But Whitney agreed to postpone the sentence one week when Paige's attorney said it interfered with family vacation plans.

2. I let him know I wasn't impressed with his "family values"

I read the LBN thread and the article and am incredulous that anyone, much less a judge, thinks an imprisoned 16 year old girl would desire sexual contact with a 47 year old man. She may consent to it to assure her survival or even in some cases, initiate it in order to get something or improve her situation. I'm thinking this judge is suffering from the same delusional middle-aged Lolita complex that the defendant is.

For some odd reason, it reminds me of a case I saw on the news a few years ago. A very attractive woman in her early 30s was scamming wealthy men in their 50s and 60s. She'd meet them in the personals and act like she was romantically interested in them, then bilk them out of their fortunes. OK, so she's not a very nice person. But it really irritated me how these old goats were portrayed in a sympathetic light, and not as the shallow sexist fools that they really were. And the judge, himself an older man, was absolutely incensed with her. He read her the riot act from the bench and in addition to her sentence, imposed an order on her that she was to stay away from men over the age of 50. Well, that's probably a good idea but how about telling the men to stay away from young women? Oh noooo....couldn't do that! Lusting after women young enough to be your daughter is sacred.

Don't know why I thought about that, but it's late and I just think that's the mentality behind that sentencing.

Ha that makes me think of the LTTE I wrote to our local paper when they put the March for Women's Lives hidden on the third page, while the boo hooo frickity hoo personal interest story of an Evangelist couple and how hard it is to be Evangelist boo hoo hoo poor fucking them, took first page. Unfortunately, among the many people I sent emailings to with a sample letter from me, one frind of mine who has no concept of how to couch your terms for LTTE's, sent me a copy of his reply. Oy! :banghead:
(and by the way, they never published any letters speaking up about that violation of journalistic ethics.)

"I've been reading reports that you rearranged a sexual predator's sentencing so it wouldn't interfere with his family vacation. Is this a joke? Is that really how you're supposed to handle punishment for sexual assualt and molestation - by making sure the punishment isn't INCONVENIENT?

Judge Whitney,

I'm writing to ask how you can judge an incarcerated minor to be at fault for the predatory actions of a 47 year old man supposedly responsable to perform his duties as guard in a professional and ethical manner.

This lenience and concern for the comfort of a middle aged male predator, who had already been charged with other acts of lewdness against young women he was responsable to guard is unacceptable, sir. You cannot possibly be so uneducated as to be unaware of the imbalance of power and the opportunities for coercion in a guard/inmate situation.

Regardless of a child's behavior, the adults caring for her have a responsablility to NOT SEXUALLY MOLEST her. Regardless of a prisoner's behavior, guards have a responsability to do their job appropriately.

I ask you to consider that women, whether they are minors or of legal age, whether they are incarcerated or free, are human beings.

Your decision to ignore the rights of this teenager, in favor of family vacation plans of a 47 year old man who routinely molests girls, is reprehensible.

I'm extremely disappointed that in this day and age there is ANYone in this country, let alone a judge, who would trivialize and treat quite so dismissively the enormous abuse of power inherent in the sexual assault of an inmate, and a minor inmate at that, by a prison guard. Let me guess: she wasn't white -- which, if true, would make your sentence giving the perpetrator such latitude not only sexist and classist, but racist too.

Please remember: people are sent to jail AS punishment, not TO BE punished (by their keepers). No matter what she did, including any attempted seduction, she didn't deserve this, and HE deserved something that absolutely would have inconvenienced him and his "family." (Oh, I get it: family values!)

Ha, "family values"---right. Family Values matter to them only in so far as it reflects well off a male head of household.

I was thinking this morning, "DANG!" I forgot to make the point about "sending a message". Authoritarian reThugs seem to like that concept, punish an offender severely in order to keep the criminals scared and compliant. Doesn't work all that well, but what really is glaringly apparent is that the ethic that makes examples out of people only applies to women and racial minorities. (Black and Latino people).
