For my friends here
I know some of you who know me maybe you lurk and don't post any more, but I thought I should let you know about this post. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=243&topic_id=12755&mesg_id=12755 Ripley? Eloriel? If you're out there, I could use your friendship now. Chicaloca? Warpy? Ccbombs? BeamMeUpScottie? Please, if you're out there... And all the wonderful friends I've made here who still have the chutzpah to keep up the fight, this is a personal request. I'm not good at asking for help but I'm asking today. I'm so broken...

1. Oh, I'm so very sorry
we had to put our kitty penelope to sleep last year on Dec 18. It was very difficult, but she had cancer of the tongue, a feeding tube through her throat, had to be fed this liquid mush every day b/c she couldn't eat. It was so hard to do, but it was the right thing to do.

We had her cremated because I couldn't stand the idea of burying her in the yard of our rental house that's in a town that I never hope to live in again once I graduate.

I wish I had some super comforting words to make the pain go away, but unfortunately I don't, other than to say how sorry I am you lost your friend and I think that cats (and animals in general) know they're loved, and know who loves them, and are appreciative of the time they've had to spend with us on this planet and I think they know they make our lives better just as we better theirs. It's a great relationship and I think that's why it's so hard to lose our fuzzy friends. They ask for nothing but food and love and a nice lap to lay on when it's cold.

I'm thinking of you, please know that.

3. I'm so sorry lukasahero!
Pets bring so much happiness and ask for so little in return, as you say. And Theo was lucky to have you guys. What a great story of how you found him! Too bad the little guy couldn't have hung around longer, what a cutie he was. Take care sweetie and PM any of us if you need to

4. Oh, I'm so sorry!
He sounds like a great little guy.... We lost one of ours a year and a half ago under anesthesia so I know how hard it can be to lose someone so quickly and so unexpectedly.

Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself for a while.

I'm so very sorry. I'd be there making you tea and sympathy cookies if I could be. Instead... the best hug I can give.

6. Thanks everybody.
Sorry about this it's just that in all of DU, my friends are here. Although I have to admit, the Pet crew is amazing. Oh and my little plea even dug up an old lurker or two. Thanks again.

8. Our pets are little bits of our hearts made flesh
and every time one of mine dies, it takes a little piece of my heart with it. Oh, there will be other much-loved pets - but there will also always be that Tristan-shaped or Jigger-shaped or Fractal-shaped hole in my heart, too. The pain can be even worse than losing a human loved one, because there's so little societal understanding for your grief - no bereavement leave, no funeral ceremony to bring closure, no comfort from relatives. And that nearly unconditional love and acceptance the pet brought you is now gone.

While it never gets any easier to lose one, with time, the memory becomes less painful. May you meet again beyond the Bridge. May your beloved pet live on forever in your memory, happy, healthy, and forever pampered.

:hugs:

9. Just saw this thread....
Will tell you a secret. I posted to your thread on Theo in the pets forum but I lurk here quite often. I am a strong feminist and am disgusted by the misogyny I see on DU. DU is not my home.

I am so sorry again about little Theo. I picture him waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge, happy and healthy.

Healing light to you and your husband.

10. Hi Branjor - welcome to the group
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 09:31 AM by lukasahero
I remember your post over in the Pets forum - you were the first to respond if I'm not mistaken. Thanks for that.

There are many here in this group who don't call DU their home anymore - that's part of why I made this post. I know there are folks who helped start this group who don't visit DU in general anymore but still drop into this forum to catch up occasionally.

I hope with this excursion out of lurkdom, you will feel free to jump into other conversations in the group. It could be a great place to organize for women's rights but mostly, I think, it's become a place just to come and lick our wounds.

Thanks again for your words about Theo. The process of talking about him to others was surprisingly cathartic.

13. You don't know me, but
I just wrote a message on that thread. You have my deepest condolences. Little Theo's story made me cry. I want to rush home right now and hug my dog and my rabbit.
