Self aggrandizing self-help promotion, making money catering to white male fear. That coal miner piece was particularly heinous. Why are men coal miners? How about because those are the jobs that are available? What do you do when you are from a historically poor section of the country, when coal mining has developed into local tradition for families? When part of your values is women just don't do that type of work? This is the woman's fault?
We won't go into the safety oversights of that tragedy.
My sister works in a non-traditional women's job, she started as a what's known as a "pipeman's helper" at the water department. Which meant she spent a lot of time digging ditches, and doing dangerous, dirty work. She stuck with it and got promoted over time. She still needs to supervise--and do, some pretty tough work. Right along side with the men, and she's never been cut any slack because she's a women.
My daughter is a soldier. And even as single mother she has never shirked a single deployment, or field training. Even when it meant leaving her son with us. She keeps up with the men in PT, does better than them sometimes (point of pride for her) encourages other women to do the same, or do as best they can. Women aren't encouraged to be strong physically or in certain cases mentally, as in the sciences. And it starts from birth. Pink, ribbons and bows, not that I have anything against ribbons and bows, exactly.(Here's your new barbie doll honey.-- I do hate barbie.)
My sister, my daughter and I have always been physically strong, we've always been able to do "men's work" Hand's down, no problem. Are we typical? Don't know. I was encouraged by my sexist father of all people (you can't count on a man-- there aren't "real men" any left, and anything bigger than a size 6 is fat) And my sister and I encouraged our daughters.
I still see far more women "flaggers" at construction sites than actually working on them. I've met one women in my life, one, who owned and ran her own construction company. That doesn't mean there aren't more out there, but that's just my experience.
He's a whiny self promoter, taking advantage of the current job market---yeah there might be jobs, but which ones are making a living wage? White men aren't being discriminated against, they are facing increasing competition, and they don't like it. They thrash around look for someone to blame. They light on "reverse discrimination" AHA! They think, why that must be it. That black man couldn't possible be as qualified as I, he got the job because he's black. That women just isn't strong enough, she got the job because she's a women. They could always go pick hops and crops-- Then they can quite complaining about "illegals."
Obviously, The whole mindset makes me sick.
