Little did we know when bush said "I hear you" that he really meant it.
Bush had assured us he wasn't spying on people without a warrant. Then the story broke about the Illegal Warrant-less Wiretapping.
Bush stood before us and reassured us this wire-tapping only dealt with FOREIGN/OVERSEAS calls.
Now we find out he's collecting phone records of every American.
Yesterday, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), characterized this latest spying as 'fighting the enemy' - which enemy are you talking about? ARE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THE ENEMY?
Bush Lied about the NOT SPYING on AMERICANS without a warrant. Bush Lied again about it being limited to FOREIGN CALLS. And BUSH IS STILL LIEING about it not being data-mining or trolling.
When you collect massive amounts of data to later sift through it - it's data-mining. When you collect massive amounts of data in the hopes of "hooking" something - it's trolling.
Bush has repeatedly tried to stifle concern by pointing out Congress has been informed/briefed. We don't know the extent of the briefing, nor which members have been brief nor how throughly the briefing. Assuming it was a comprehensive and 'truthful' briefing - those members of Congress are, at the very least, are accomplices in ILLEGAL violations of our RIGHT TO PRIVACY.
The telephone companies, who turned over the records, are are accomplices in ILLEGAL violations of our RIGHT TO PRIVACY.
Sen. Arlen Spector (R-PA) has said he would 'look into it'. Please don't hold your breath for this to go beyond putting more lipstick on a pig. The Republicans control Congress and are more than eager to whip out their rubber-stamps.
Interesting side observation: The USA story hit the papers yesterday morning. Within a few short hours - Bush was out in front of the camera, complete with a "power point" and "talking point" presentation. When other scandals and outrages have hit the the media - it's been days before the White House even issued a statement, let along putting Bush in front of the camera. Looks, like Tony "I don't drink the kool-aid" Snow was on top of this one.
