1. Didn't you know?
If we had been spying on americans back then we could have stopped Hitler even before Poland. Don't ever forget about Poland.

2. Well, if Poland hadn't attacked Germany with their calvary and
swords World War II would never have happened. :sarcasm:

3. So in their comparison...
is Bush's unwarranted and illegal invasion
of Iraq equivalent to Hitler's invasion of Poland...
or is it more like the annexation of Sudetenland ?

4. Hitler invades Poland, Bush invades Iraq....
in both cases, the invasion is done illegally. I see where this is going.....

6. Finally the Nazi comparisons, I wonder if they will look into the other
similarities of the patriot act, 9-11, military backdrops for public speeches, the consolidation of the press and news sources, jingoistic religious overtones, the industrial war machine....etc.etc.

Oh, never-mind it's CNN

5. one major comparison: WWII was a real war, whereas WoT is not
it's a PR campaign, nothing more.

8. Better comparison: Bu$h/NSA is Big Brother. "Goldstein" is "Evildoers."
The Hate rose to its climax. The voice of Goldstein had become an actual sheep's bleat, and for an instant the face to that of a sheep. Then the sheep-face melted into the figure of a Eurasian soldier who seemed to be advancing, hugh and terrible, his submachine roaring and seeming to spring out of the surface of the screen, so that some of the people in the front row actually flinched backwards in their seats. But in the same moment, drawing a deep sigh of relief from everybody, the hostile figure melted into the face of Big Brother, black-haired, black mustachio'd, full of power and mysterious calm, and so vast that it almost filled up the screen. Nobody heard what Big Brother was saying. It was merely a few words of encouragement, the sort of words that are uttered in the din of battle, not distinguishable individually but restoring confidence by the fact of being spoken. Then the face of Big Brother faded away again, and instead the three slogans of the Party stood out in bold capitals:

WAR IS PEACE

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

George Orwell, 1984, P. 17

On Thursday night, Keith Olberman even called the Bu$h/NSA's bogeyman what it really is : GOLDSTEIN! I almost fell out of my chair. Goldstein, indeed. Thanks, K.O.!

7. This phenomenon is often(always?) overlooked in the...
...frequent discussions of whether or not * is comparable to Hitler. There are reasonable arguments for either position and they are suitable topics on a discussion board such as our own. The corporate media, on the other hand, regularly makes the comparison between Saddam Hussein and Hitler as a matter of undisputed fact. Their broad reach and undue and undeserved influence make this a far worse offense. The idea that a third rate dictator such as Hussein can be compared to one of the most truly evil men in history can be rejected on its face except for the fact that it serves the interest of their masters to inflate the importance of this former Republican tool who outwore his usefulness. To take their argument to its logical conclusion:

Hussein = Hitler
now we know that * is far more dangerous to our country than Hussein ever was or could have been, so
* is worse than Hussein
therefore
* is worse than Hitler

I rather doubt this is the conclusion they intend to imply and they would argue with the second premise. But my only point is to argue against the first premise, so that would make us even.
