Rudy G gets the Michael Moore Treatment
Rudy is yet another jerk who suddenly became competent via 9/11:

May 11, 2006 - The new documentary “Giuliani Time,” takes its title from the scandal surrounding Abner Louima, the Haitian immigrant who was sodomized with a broomstick by New York City police in 1997. Louima claimed one of the officers beating him had said, “It’s Giuliani time.” That claim turned out to be untrue, but the phrase lived on, crystallizing for many their misgivings about the mayor’s “zero tolerance” policy on crimefighting.

The film, which opens Friday in New York, contains no information that will surprise New Yorkers. Rudolph Giuliani, who served two terms between 1994 to 2002, is taken to task on First Amendment issues for threatening to cut funding to the Brooklyn Museum of Art for an exhibit he considered offensive. Giuliani’s welfare-reform policies are portrayed as doing more to hurt the poor than help them, forcing many welfare recipients out of school and into menial, dead-end jobs. He’s also criticized for being insensitive on immigration and human-rights issues during his premayoral tenure in the Reagan administration’s Justice Department. A spokeswoman for Giuliani told NEWSWEEK that “the mayor hasn’t seen the movie, nor does he plan on it.”

1. I hope it mentions that Rudy was going to withold 9/11 funds
donated to the city until March. Only a public outcry stopped him. And March just happens to be the end of a banking quarter--was he planning to divert the funds or skim the interest?

2. Rudy is a politician.. that's ALL he is.
He saw a void, and stepped into it. He was the mayor, and he did what was expected of him..nothing more..

3. Same with Bush...
I remember hearing how heroic the asswipe was and people saying, "Gore wouldn't have gone to war to protect us if HE was President."

Anybody in office could have done as much as Bush did, which was practically nothing. Just a photo-op on rubble as Colbert so aptly put it.

To think that an elected official wouldn't know how to play to the public sentiment in a time of crisis underestimates how many political operatives they surround themselves with.

It's what they do off camera that shows their mettle. And I believe Gore would have sent troops into Afghanistan fully armored with larger troop numbers and we would have never let Osama escape Tora Bora.
