Poll question: How should we pay for the war in Iraq and protecting oil in general?
So far, the war has been budgeted with special appropriations, but with estimates of the total cost going as high as $1 trillion, we need to figure out how to pay for it at some point.

Well before the war, someone figured that if the cost of our military protecting Middle East oil was paid for at the gas pump, gas would cost 30% more. I'm sure a gas tax for the war would be a lot higher now.

Other options:

tax the oil companies that pump oil in countries where we prop up the government or invaded to secure the contracts for our companies (like Iraq). Conservatives usually like this kind of tax--a user fee--because it is borne by those using the service rather than everyone.

tax profits of any company that has contracts in Iraq.

Add it to everybodies regular taxes.

Put it on credit and make your kids, grandkids, and their grandkids pay for it.

I'm leaving off the option of only taxing the dumbfucks who support Bush--I don't want to see their trailers get repossessed because they can't pay the extra tax.

3. Tax the stinkin' rich...roll back those bullshit tax cuts
Never mind the three hundred bucks the suckers were given...get ahold of those millions that went to the brutally wealthy. And then, let's get the HELL out of Iraq!

4. Where's the general tax on oil?
The broad based tax on oil, not gas, so that the tax covers the cost of having to project power into the ME and control oil from dirt to end use?

5. Resurrect the Soviet Union?
For 40 years we had a pretty sweet deal: keep the oil flowing cheap, and purchased only in dollars, and in return we'll keep the Soviets from taking over your countries. So, we need to find someway to make ourselves useful to these guys again if we want them to stay in line.

6. Problem is, we were useful to oil companies and leaders we installed
not the people of those countries.

The "War on Terror" is the neocon attempt to resurrect Cold War hysteria, but they might trigger a real world war if they attack Iran. We will be depending on China and Russia behaving more maturely than Bush.
