It is no longer a question of whether there will be a Democratic primary for the seat occupied by U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman; it is now a question of when it will be official.
A week before the Democratic Party delegates meet at their convention to endorse candidates for statewide offices, campaign staffers for Lieberman, D-Conn., agree with those working for his challenger, Ned Lamont of Greenwich.
After 18 years with virtually no challenge from inside his party, Lieberman will likely face a primary race in August, according to staffers.

Lieberman is expected to do well among delegates from cities such as Hartford and Stamford, but Lamont has an edge in smaller municipalities, especially in eastern towns, such as Coventry, where five out of six delegates support him.
"We don't feel a real connection with Joe Lieberman -- although he's a fine man with integrity," said Dorothy Grady, chairwoman of Coventry's Democratic Town Committee. "I don't think he represents our view anymore."
Grady also said she was surprised at Lamont's warm reception from party members.
