You can fill this vacuum with paranoid self-flagellation or you can...

...notice that the sound of those chirping crickets means that the Rove spin machine has NOT jumped in to discredit Jason Leopold's story. If this were a Rathergate-style crucifixion, wouldn't the MSM be disgorging Rovian talking points by the bucket load right about now?

1. Or you could just skip the useless speculation altogether.
I mean, really, there's something to be inferred from the fact that Rove isn't going to give Truthout credibility by noticing its existence publically?

It'll happen when it happens.

2. Exactly. Rove would chew off his own leg before...
...he would do anything to call attention to the Leopold article--unless it's false, in which case, he'd be all over it.

3. Why would he call attention to it if it's false?
He would call attention to it once it's PROVEN false....which won't happen until the grand jury disbands without him being indicted.

Until then, there's nothing to talk about except speculations.

4. The idea here is that he would call attention to it, if he planted it...
...a la Rathergate.

5. That doesnt' make any sense.
Whether Leopold dreamed it up, or Rove planted it, there's no reason to call attention to it on Rove's part until the day comes that Rove can say, "now, we can all see how the blogosphere wrongly accuses me!" And that day can only come when Rove can say he will never be indicted.

6. Obviously, he didn't plant it and Leopold didn't dream it up.

If he planted it, as more than a few DUers have suggested, wouldn't he be knocking it down with lots of noise and fanfare? This was my whole point.

10. Oh, I see. Well, if you're right, it's still sad that they...
...can count on us going stupid over it for a few days.
