Children believe in germs, not God
How Children Learn About God and Science Robert Roy Britt

Wed May 17, 1:00 AM ET

A new review of scientific studies supports the idea that children do not take all the teachings of parents and teachers at face value.

Most parents would hope and expect as much—nobody wants an automaton.

But the study revealed an interesting sidebar that is tougher to explain. Among things they can't see, from germs to God, children seem to be more confident in the information they get about invisible scientific objects than about things in the spiritual realm.

"We don't have a firm view on why it is they're a bit more confident on the scientific information," said Paul Harris, a professor of education at Harvard University. "But one possible plausible reason is that when we talk about things like germs or body organs, we talk in a very matter-of-fact fashion. We don't say, "I believe in germs," we simply take it for granted that they exist."

5. children understand that religion is just adult fairy tales while germs
actually do something, like make you sick.

most religion is just something adults use to justify their own crummy behaviors and reward themselves with a get out of hell free
card. that way people can do awful things that will be "forgiven' no matter how awful those things were.

8. See, here's an example of someone confusing Religion with Spirituality
Edited on Wed May-17-06 09:21 AM by cryingshame
and Mental Science.

Just as you learn the various Physical Sciences one step at a time and progress to more advanced levels... same for Mental/Spiritual Science.

Problem is not a lot of people realize that Mental/Spritual Science exists and that it is NOT about religious dogma and blind faith.

Mental/Spiritual Science involves Theory, Experimention and Verificiation just as Physical Science.

11. No, One Can Study Consciousness/Spirit Scientifically. After All,
Edited on Wed May-17-06 09:42 AM by cryingshame
Consciousness occurs in Nature and as a Natural phenomena, can be studied using Scientific Method.

However, to study Consciousness or Spirit scientifically one has to learn abstract Principles while memorizing the Language/Symbols.

Just like Physical Science and Mathematics.

when you died, you cease to exist. That is why everyone is crying. I still think that today.

6. It takes just as much indoctrination to learn Molecular/ BiologicalScience
as it does to learn Mental/Spiritual Science.

Just about ANYONE with a certain amount of intellectual capacity can learn about biology, chemistry etc... but they still have to take the time and go through the process of learning. Step by step.

Same with Mental/Spiritual Science. It's just a matter of taking the time to go through the process of learning the language and symbols and principle involved. It also takes PRACTISE.

The problem is, most people have no idea there IS a Mental/Spiritual Science. They've never been exposed to it and aren't ready to seek it out.

All most people think of when the word Spiritual is used... is exoteric Religion. And exoteric religion is bascially nothing but a dogmatic framework offered with no real experimenation or verification involved.

12. If only we could get them to apply that germ awareness
And wash their filthy little hands, people in general wouldn't get sick as often.

Children are the worst disease vectors on the planet.
