The cost of the Iraq war is infinite
When you borrow money to buy a house, the lender gives you an "amatorization" schedule, which tells you how much in principal and how much in interest you will pay over the life of the loan. For a 6% loan of 100,000 dollars, you pay back the 100 K over 30 years and pay another 115K in interest. The difference is that Bushco never intend to pay off the loan. With more and more tax cuts, we will never reach the point where we have a budget surplus and can begin paying off the Iraq war (and other) debt. We will just keep paying the interest. In this situation, the cost is infinite, because we will never stop paying and will never pay the loan off.

That is, until the whole fincial house of cards collapses. But even then I suspect we will still be paying. Just ask any third world country that has "defaulted" on its debt.

1. You could be rigth
I mean I believe we could turn it around - repeal the Bush Tax Cuts, reign in our military adventurism, and flog Dick Cheney (that last one probably wont' help our financial situation, but would be enjoyable).

but I don't know if we have the will do take the steps necessary.

3. Even if the war ends, unless we get back to a surplus
we will still be paying for it forever. We are still paying for Reagan and Bush I (and to be fair, the previous wars, but those two really escalated the deficit).
