Someone is burning up Walmarts.
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 08:23 PM by lonestarnot
Two lit here in Phoenix in the fabric departments. Both are closed for the weekend. Stores with excess of 100 people evacuated. $20K reward. Hmmmf...wish I knew "who dun it." I'd have a party and money to donate to the dems. On edit. Don't shop at Walfart so wouldn't have a clue for the 20k, not that I'd want to know so I could turn them in either, just would like the 20k.

Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 08:37 PM by HeeBGBz
The guy was doing it in protest of housing development on the mountains. He was burning nice new homes.

He did an interview. The Preserves Arsonist. Phoenix New Times was kind of a cool paper.

I'm pretty sure he got caught, but I'm trying to find a link to back me up.

If it's the latter, I would translate it as "rich mountain city."

Unless they didn't know that fire burns and causes damage and the voices in their head told them to do it because jesus wanted them to, then jail will be fine for the arsonist criminals.

28. Oh Give Me A Break.
Arsonists are criminals like any one else that commits criminal acts are criminals. And if there is a 1 in a thousand case where the kid was acting out for those reasons than use it as extenuating circumstances at his trial and if mental help is the right answer, and not jail, than I'm all for it. But the other 999 should serve time in jail like any other criminal has to serve time in jail.

1 in a thousand? Don't know the stats on child sex assault victims who have committed arson. Do you? And I believe it's called mitigating circumstance at sentencing.

33. It's Called Extenuating Circumstances Just Fine, Thank You.
And I don't give a shit about the stats. If you commit arson that destroys property that wasn't accidental than you should be put in jail. The 1 in a thousand stat is just out of my ass, but still I'd wager pretty close to how many arson cases would contain a defendant that legitimately would deserve an institution as opposed to a jail house.

35. They Can Be Rehabilitated In Jail.
I'm absolutely against jailtime for petty crimes, especially ones like marijuana use/possession etc...

But if you burn a fucking store down, sorry bub, your ass should be in jail.

So don't give me your hyped up spun false judgments about me wanting to expand a prison system blah blah blah. I think all criminals should have a chance for rehabilitation and for entering back into society with a clean slate if deserved. But that shouldn't come in the absence of punishment. Like I said, you burn down a fucking building on purpose with bad intention, you should go to fucking jail.

39. There Ya Go Again.
With your hyped up false spin and rhetoric.

If you actually read the post you'd see I was all for them being rehabilitated and being able to re-enter society with a clean slate. How you can take a statement like that and twist it and warp it falsely into a sentiment of 'lock em up and throw away the key' is perplexing, and shows a real lack of reading comprehension skills.

40. Because if you knew a fucking thing about prison you would know that
no rehabilitation activities take place in prison. We warehouse we don't rehab. We have more people in prison than any other country on earth. We are creating a DNA system for misdemeanors in New York to expand nationwide. We are building more prisons than schools. And I'm tired and don't want to continue.

45. First Off, I've Been There Done That So Don't Fucking Preach To Me Please
Second of all, I agree that our current system does not truly give a fuck about rehabilitation and I find that disgraceful. But then I also find your argument to be misguided. I don't think that criminals should not go to jail because jail doesn't offer rehabilitation, I think they should go to jail but that jails should have rehabilitation programs. So maybe the correct fight would be fighting against a system with no empathy and making sure that criminals are punished, but also treated as human beings capable of being treated, instead of just ranting that they shouldn't go to jail at all and should just have therapy.
