SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Just days after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said negative advertising was bad for California, political experts said he's going down that very road with his new campaign ad.
The governor's first ad of the fall campaign features birds, cars and people all going in reverse, and describes the pre-Schwarzenegger era as a time of soaring taxes and disappearing jobs.
"That's where Phil Angelides has promised to take our families, with his $10 billion in new taxes," the ad states.
The ad began airing statewide on Friday -- three days after Schwarzenegger blamed negative ads from the two Democratic candidates for keeping voter turnout low during the primary election.

"It is a negative ad. And Schwarzenegger broke his promise that he just made a few days ago, that he didn't want to run any negative ads," Angelides adviser Bob Mullholland said.
