SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Attorneys for Ted Kaczynski, the man convicted in the Unabomber attacks, were at the federal courthouse in Sacramento on Friday battling with the government over the details of a court-ordered auction of Kaczynski's belongings.
The auction would involve all of the items seized from Kaczynski's Montana cabin at the time of his arrest. They include a dental bridge, his journals, maps, books, clothes and a tomato paste can with 87 cents inside.
The reason for the auction is that when Kaczynski was sentenced to prison for killing three people and wounding more than 20 others, the judge ordered him to pay $15 million in restitution to his victims and their families.

Part of the issue delaying matters is that the attorneys for all sides are fighting over whether Kaczynski's writings since his arrest should be part of the auction.
"I believe the government has no right to that. He has a First Amendment right to express his ideas," Kaczynski's attorney, John Balzas, said.
