Europe still sees US as greatest threat to stability
This story prefaces Chimpy's impending visit to Europe; he leaves tomorrow for Austria and Hungary:

Europeans remain deeply suspicious of US foreign policy in spite of President George W. Bush’s concerted attempts since the start of his second term to improve transatlantic relations.

In a Harris opinion poll, published on the eve of Mr Bush’s latest visit to Europe this week, 36 per cent of respondents identify the US as the greatest threat to global stability.

The poll, conducted in association with the FT, questioned a representative sample of 5,000 people in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain on a range of issues. Thirty per cent of respondents named Iran as the greatest threat to global stability, with 18 per cent selecting China.

Guillaume Parmentier, director of the Paris-based French Centre on the US, said such polls reflected the lingering ill will caused by the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 but tended to obscure better co-operation between the US and Europe over a number of issues, such as Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Iran.

1. The host read this article on the WJ this AM. I was a bit surprised
to hear several callers say they didn't care what other countries think if the US! I really didn't need to read that article to know what other coutries think. I've heard and read far too many people saying they LIE and tell people they are from Canada when they travel O/S's because of the Anti-American sentiment across the world!

I actually think there is a bit of good news hidden in that poll though. It seems most people don't really hate Americans, but HATE our current leadership...or lack thereof!

6. Have you been under that same rock every year before then last 5?
I'm sorry, but I don't just focus on this one adminsitration, and I won't apologize for that.

There is no such thing as global stability, especially in the reality humans have created for ourselves. I agree with the Europeans asked in the poll, but I have no doubt if those states were in our position, that they wouldn't be doing the same thing(since they've basically all done it before). The only reasons they aren't, are because their empires died before ours did, and we have a global military that keeps the luxurious lifestyle of the Western world humming along, and they don't have to worry so much about the military aspect of it.

7. ah, but what does that got to do with the tea in china, again?
other than validating their opinions even more since apparently they know of which they speak in terms of EMPIRE.

8. Let's stick with the here and now
the bottom line is that George Bush's "leadership traits" and "dogmatic decision making" have paved the way for America's current low standing in the view of our Earth brothers and sisters.

I suppose that's what happens when a shit for brains president makes shit for brains decisions -- like bombing the hell out of an unarmed country in the guise of fighting the "War on Terra".

If you want to talk about the world view under other presidents, knock yourself out.

I'll go crawl back under that rock now. See you there.
