W: 'we can trust in God's promise of peace on Earth & goodwill toward men'
Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 06:34 AM by mopaul
my favorite bush quote of the year, from today's presidential radio address.

i just had to share these lofty and inspiring words, written by some nazi hack, for the president to grunt to the world.

4. He's kidding, right?
Asshole. A worthless promise from an invisible sky being with not one shred of empirical evidence as to it's existence and he quotes it as truth. All the while bush makes it his life's work to see that this promise has no chance whatsoever of coming to pass. The giggling murder monkey loves his wars, as long as he's not the one required to fight them, of course. :puke: He makes me sick!

5. What drivel!
He makes a statement like this while doing nothing for peace or goodwill. The fact that there are actual living, breathing people in this world who believe anything he says is mind boggling.

6. Hey Bush, Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers..." This means folks
who actually try to make PEACE... not WAR like you have. The Bible also says to beat swords into plow shares, to LOVE thy neighbor/and your enemy and thou shalt not kill (of course if you truly follow Jesus' commandment to "LOVE" you wouldn't be killing them). To hear a murdering war monger like you talk about "peace on Earth and goodwill towards men" is not only the ultimate in hypocrisy but blasphemous as well.

9. I remember my freeper brother telling me to "Watch Out", because
the next one would be the Anti-Christ.
Some Bible passage about the "Peace Maker" would go first , then the "Anti-Christ" would follow.

This was back when Clinton was in Dayton having the "Peace Accords".
He thought at the time, like the rest of the world, that Gore would be our next President.

He was right,in one way.......

10. There's a lot more in the Bible about peace and helping poor than gays...
I'd sure love some Democrat somewhere to beat these "Christians" over the head with the book they pretend to cherish.

21. Here, here to that!
I'm the Democrat doing something like what you hope for, right here in the heart of the Bible-belt, Alabama. In response to a post that King George proves there is "no god," I'd like to say that all he proves is that he is no Christian at all. I hope that my fellow Christians will know the tree (or bush) by its fruit and cast the evil tree that bears bad fruit into the fire.

24. he's a fool and an ass
hole alright-. But I agree, to say he proves that there is no god, would be like saying Joe Leberman proves democrats want war- Or to say that because pagan humans rape, pillage, and murder that all pagans prove that 'godless' people are 'evil'.
There is good and bad in each one of us. We ultimitaly are responsible for our own actions and reactions. The god i worship would have me desire that bush humble himself, and learn how wrong he's been- that he would come to understand that he has done much harm, and become that which he claims to hate.
God of the bible, says, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land"-
Greed, abuse of power, merciless judgement, oppression of the poor, making war, seeking to be the 'god' of this world, turning our backs on those in need, the ill, the 'least of these, those may have become american trademarks, but they aren't democratic ones, or godly ones.

Humility is something i've yet to see much of in this 'self made man and woman' society. (even- sometimes especially when that 'self made' is inherited wealth and power.)

but that's just bullshit. I'll stop with that because I don't want to turn this into a rant or an anti-god thread. But, boy, this just pisses me off - to have a "civilized" country ran by fucking superstition.

15. Peace and goodwill aren't superstition.
They're an attitude. An attitude which happens to be notably absent from the fearless leader and his gang. Peace and goodwill doesn't come from a diety, it comes from human beings, one heart and mind at a time.

You can boot organized religion off the planet and still have plenty of peace and goodwill.

If you're pissed, it should be because our country is run by a LIAR.

18. No, 'men' is gender-neutral
It's a good quote, or rather it would've been if said by president Kerry, and not by someone as hypocritical as Bush.

22. FYI
I can't find "Peace on Earth, good will toward men," in the King James Version. I do, however, know that the Bible states, "There will always be war or rumors of war." I just wish people would stop confusing Christianity with all this right-wing dribble spewing from the mouth of a hypocrite. Jesus teaches us to seek the Kingdom of Heaven in ourselves, not bring about some evil political empire that claims to endorse Christianity here on Earth.

23. My mistake...
It is in the Bible... right in Luke "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." It's NOT a promise... It is reported as something said by an angel at the birth of Jesus. It seems like a desire of the Angel or God, NOT a promise.

25. Why do people think this fuck is Christian?
Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 05:16 PM by Rocknrule
Jesus loved peace, Bush loves war. Jesus cared for the poor, Bush only cares for the rich. Jesus said "Love thy neighbor/enemies," Bush says "Kick their ass and take their gas." How unChristlike can you get? Of course, these are the people who think Christianity begins and ends with hating gays.

28. And actually with screwball fundie evangelicals that interpret the Bible
literally, there will never be peace because they see has part of Armageddon the idea that a person will arise who will be very charismatic and will unite all the "tribes," the world in other words, but will then show is devilish ways. There could never be peace with fundies. Any peace in the world is the feared or wanted Armageddon. It's disgusting really and they disgust me.
