Bank Data Secretly Reviewed by U.S. to Fight Terror
By ERIC LICHTBLAU and JAMES RISEN
Published: June 22, 2006

WASHINGTON, June 22 - Under a secret Bush administration program initiated weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, counterterrorism officials have gained access to financial records from a vast international database and examined banking transactions involving thousands of Americans and others in the United States, according to government and industry officials.

.................

The program, however, is a significant departure from typical practice in how the government acquires Americans' financial records. Treasury officials did not seek individual court-approved warrants or subpoenas to examine specific transactions, instead relying on broad administrative subpoenas for millions of records from the cooperative, known as Swift.

...................

Officials described the Swift program as the biggest and most far-reaching of several secret efforts to trace terrorist financing. Much more limited agreements with other companies have provided access to A.T.M. transactions, credit card purchases and Western Union wire payments, the officials said.

...............

The Bush administration has made no secret of its campaign to disrupt terrorist financing, and President Bush, Treasury officials and others have spoken publicly about those efforts. Administration officials, however, asked The New York Times not to publish this article, saying that disclosure of the Swift program could jeopardize its effectiveness. They also enlisted several current and former officials, both Democrat and Republican, to vouch for its value.

4. Interesting that they call it Swift......
Swift, swift, now where have I heard that word before....?

My only comment on the bank records is that having all those transaction records sure do make it easy to make a pile of dough on the stock market.

7. But older.
I remember looking up Swift numbers a few years ago, maybe 2002? 2001? Had to pay for a book from the Netherlands, and all they could give me was their bank account and the bank's Swift number.

Never did figure out how to pay for the book.

5. When does the revolution start??

One thing I have noticed is that the banks are getting much more annoying about letting you get your hands on your own money!

I went in yesterday to get a cashiers check in order to purchase a new car. They asked for my ID- I gave them my photo license and a credit card. Then I swiped the license for them. ... I waited while the teller discussed my acct on the phone for ~ 20 minutes.

...Then I was asked to come to a back room and speak to someone over the phone who asked about my various accounts, my husbands name etc. FINALLY, I was given MY money. Of course, they apologized and said it was all in the name of security, bla, bla, bla.

Yeah, right. Do I not match the photo on my license???? HELLOOOOO!

Sometimes, I think they just want to look for a way to hold the money a couple more days and make a bit more $ on it themselves.

6. We STILL don't know *who* placed those 'put options' on UAL/AAL on 9-11.
That must be a money trail they *don't* want to reveal, with all of this illegal data sweeping they're doing on all of us.

Is the revolution about to start? Don't want to be late to this event.

10. SEPT 10TH 2001 BLOCKS OF "PUT OPTIONS " WERE TAKEN OUT
on American and United Airlines...a "PUT OPTION" is like buying stock..only normally you gamble on stock going "up " in value..a Put Option is a gamble that the stock will fall...

millions were "bet " by some one or some persons that United and American Airlines stock would fall drastically..

no warning was given to the Airlines as required by law..
and no one has been arrested nor was this looked into by the 9/11 commission

supposedly our government investigated..but the public has never been told who bought those "put options"..and supposedly no one has ever collected the money..

i say bullshit..this government can trace how much we all make buying and selling stock..just try to not include it in your income tax..they will be all over you like flies on shit!

i hope that helps a little and i hope thats what you were asking about..

13. this is the same government that has thusfar failed to figure out . . .
who placed those put options on airline stocks prior to 9/11 . . .

or, more accurately, have refused to divulge this information to the American public and to the world . . .

they know -- but they ain't talkin' . . .

wonder why that is? . . .
