Just started this job fund raising ,but .
First off it is the only job I could find and I feel completely out of my element .
They are for profit and fund raise for none profit organizations . I finished my second day of training and it's pretty involved . The thing that will make it difficult for me is some of the fundraising is done for certain conservative republican organizations that I am completely opposed to . There are other organizations i would easily support .

Bottom line is you don't have a choice and you must become sort of an actor since the approach differs depending on who you are dealing with .

Just the job alone is tough because I am far from used to this sort of thing and it does not pay all that well but will have to do and I have no idea for how long .

I try to convince myself it's like any job dealing with the public , some customers you would rather not talk to or would like to shake but you ignore this and do the job you are paid for and go home at the end of the day perhaps screaming but you tolerate , politics don't fly well at most any job .

For some reason this is more difficult because it is more important than dealing with someone getting their car repaired in the sense of who you are helping and with what .

Any advice ?

1. Welcome to DU, blues90!
I can't say I have advice to offer, but just a couple of thoughts...it's like the reminder on a plane that you've gotta put your own oxygen mask on first, before you can help anyone else. The job you're doing sounds kind of like that to me -- you're doing what you've gotta do to survive. Granted, it's distasteful, but I can't see that you're doing any real harm -- these orgs have been raising tons of money for years before you came along and will continue to do so long after you move on, so some of the money they're spending to do it might as well end up in your pocket in the meantime.

At least you're conscientious enough to care about how you earn your money -- which is a lot more than I can say for a lot of people I've met along the way.

2. Keep job hunting while you learn the ropes of fundraising
Good fundraisers are hard to find where many opportunities will open up for you if you learn the skills. So learn what you can and get good but all the while keep your eyes open for an opening in an organization you would be proud to represent.
