The N.Y. Times' Frank Rich prepping a book on Iraq and Bush and WMD and what-did-he-think-he-knew-and-when-did-he-think-he-knew-it. His pages get divided into two print colors. One for Bushspeak, one for facts.

Ailes Cracks Whip as Fox News Slips
By Staff -- Broadcasting & Cable, 6/25/2006 11:59:00 PM

Slackers at Fox News Channel, you’re on notice! Your boss is not pleased. Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is on the warpath following his network’s recent ratings slump, and he won’t hesitate to clean house to turn things around.

So far during the second quarter, the No. 1 cable news channel’s primetime schedule has dropped 22% in its core 25-54 demo and 8% in total viewers. The first quarter was even worse. ....

Production values are slipping, and bookers aren’t competitive enough, relying too heavily on the same pool of faces and settling for authors or actors after they’ve already been on CNN or … gasp … MSNBC.

A full-page "Now Hiring" ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?" Says one Fox staffer, that question was not addressed to outside applicants: "That was aimed inside."

Commenting through a spokesman last week, Ailes left no doubt: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent."

6. "that includes talent"
So this time it includes "talent" in addition to toadies, syncophants, ass kissers, yes men, sociopathic liars and propagandists?

Kind of implies being a syncophant doesn't take any talent, doesn't it?

-85% Jimmy

Didn't Trump write some book called "The Art of the Brown Nose" or something?

7. Sounds stupid
so that is good news. demoralization or encouraging his goons to break the sound barrier should produce wild results which are NOT dealing with the steady disaffection from FOX. Entertaining all the way down, except that if a pundit is blowing whistles and pounding drums on a blocked channel is anything really happening?

Vice destroys whatever native intelligence one has. Failure drives brute cunning wild with rage and denial and a zest for defiantly repeating one's errant ways. Lost- is the real connection to simple market values. Lost- the contact to advertisers. Lost- the loyalty of people lied to one too many times.

This is the time to redouble efforts with advertisers who pay to get their products seen- at extremely high prices- to a declining ALIENATED audience where not only partisan controversy is exercised without scruples but soon- without any caution whatsoever. ALERT the sponsors who wouldn't want their product linked in a memory trauma of an O'Reilly gone mad in thongs cursing out a key consumer group.

Big corporations, as is their vampirish wont in many sectors, saw the traditional news shows make a lot of money with quality and consequence. There WAS some balance probably in the fact that they wouldn't want to offend the vast array of sponsors, which, despite the profit motive, had some democratic range.
Big corporations ensured corporate FREEDOM to make the news what they please, eliminating the troublesome "news" for the "popular" entertainment factors. They could still make the sponsors come begging to their controlled table. However, once the abuses come home, having not only driven "news" into the ground as they have other cash cow business, but trying to do the octopus picking the pockets of every consumer and every citizen and every institution, the payback will be tremendous. Do they have oil or factories? They own only broadcast channels and paper. Unlike Microsoft, the dominant software platform, they have split themselves and their audience even as they merged into several mega monopolies. In the end sponsors will withdraw from playing politics to a crazed, undependable core and the dictatorship of the ill-serving mediacrats. Especially if competition that DOES the job now universally gets its a$$ moving. Then simple legislation leveling the playing field and destroying the criminality of the desperate game will shrink wrap or eliminate the failed media into senile cranks with less status than the National Enquirer.

8. Don't you think their drop is linked to Shrub's drop in the polls?
I think THAT is what has FOX so scared! They've made no secret that they are Pub supporters, and the general public is turning against the Pubs, and against FOX in the process.

FOX has put themselves in a no-win situation! To ge some new viewers or old ones back, they've got to change their strong RW slant, but if they do that, they'll lose the few Party loyalists they now have!

HA HA, I LOVE IT!
